so , I believe this is the VERY newest NEW Trekker canopy in the world and out of the mold .. trimmed and washed .
thanks guys .. not much happening on the Trekker right now .. I have been focusing on other things .. but rest assured .. there is Progress and I still WILL have it "driving" this year .. headliner "pad" is done and ready . I still have to mount the topper/canopy , and build a "transition cover" between the headliner on the cab and on the canopy . Canopy progress is on going .. and hope to have it done this week .. blocking the gelcoat , and prepping it for paint .
so got the roof all prepped and ready for some color .. I decided to "set" it in place to see what it will look like .. I'm happy .. I still have to perminantally mount it so some of the gaps are not correct , remember , it's just sitting there .
so .. not been able to do much ... but getting a little bit done .. I started cleaning up the inner alum. trim plates , stripped the powder coat and got one into zinc .. I still want to paint them "satin black" (same black as the rest) .. but heres what I got so far .. also making a new "transition" moulding for the cab and roof seam .. the old cardboard is just not usable again :-/ .. so with some carefull measurements , I trimmed up a 2X4 , to use as a mould , rounded the edges .. and made a fiberglass piece fitting it is next on the list .. .
installed the headliner "backing plate" today .. and "prepped" for the cab/canopy transition .. I used the original Trekker "cab rienforcement" roof piece .. as a "transition" for the canopy/cab fabric headliner .
thanks .. it absolutly is better , IMO , .. originally , they used wood in the " strength" areas .. I use ISO resin instead of GP resin + Kevlar , and woven materials . It's stronger and should last much longer then the original .
worked a bit on the Trekker today .. got the "transition" headliner piece , cut and fit .. glassed it up , and should be cured for tomorrow .. .
well again , I am waiting for the uhplostery guy to do the headliner .. he was supose to be here the previous week , but did not show up , then he finally showed up last week to take measurements , to order the material .. so I guess because of the snow storm back east , he didnt get it , and it's supose to be here this comming week .. I hope so .. so I have just been "tying" up some loose ends .. got the other canopy strip , stripped and both of them painted also finished up the tail lamps .. Ordered new lenses , because the old ones were ... well old and 1 was broken .. The Mojave Chrome lamps i'm using have the back-up lamp chrome surround and the new lenses just have the black ones .. So I proceeded to drill out the mount stems and remove the black surrounds as well as the chrome ones removing the chrome ones I noticed there were both marked R .. huh !! and got the pieces swaped and tail lamps installed just got to get the canopy on now !! .
Seriously, very high quality build. Your attention to detail is outstanding. Can't wait to see it finished up.
thanks .. just waiting on the uhpolstery guy , ( again ) to get the topper done , then I can send it ALL in for paint .. then final assembly .
so good news ... my headliner material is in .. Talked to my uhplstery guy and It looks like a sunday install I had to "level" the roof strips and install a couple of "tack strips" . Because the headliner wont be 1 piece and will have to be sewn , We decided to follow the body line , to give it a "subtle" custom look .. also I added a rear dome lamp mount .. .
well .. sunday has come and gone .. another bust on the interior . started off all well and fine .. trimmed out the centersection , cut and fit , and Tony took it back to his shop for some sewing ... well I guess his sewing machine took a turn for the worst , and decided not to work . Broke all of his needles , so I guess he has to order some parts and fix his machine :'( .. one day I might get this done !! .
