Ya i know but i just want this beauty to be done already. Its going to be nice looking, like it just rolled of the showroom floor.
so I decided to build a "production mold" afterall .. one less part to build when I do the other pieces for the trekker body . which means , YES ... anyone with a 79-83 pickup SHORT BOX .. will soon be able to build there own Trekker !! .
Original shell had about a million cracks in the glass (seriously) .. it was 30 year technology , and in very bad shape (see the pics) .. it was absolutly NOT worth saving .. any repair work would have showed threw in a years time .. so a NEW roof with NEW products and resins (tech) will easly last another 30 years .. NEW one for sure . Yes , New for sure .. not sure on the cost yet .. still working on a "whole " Trekker package .. I'm thinkin' the roof alone , as a replacement piece , will run about $600.00 .. .
finished up the mold today .. poped the old roof out trimmed the edges , a little bit more work to "prep" the new mold for maufacture , but basically , I'm now ready to make my new roof .
thanks guys .. shop was full with customer vehicles for the last couple of weeks .. so I havent been able to do much on my own ... but the weekend is comming .. I have been doing some little things .. I did manage to get my battery hold down finished .. Plastic dipped , and installed .
how did you like the turn out of the plastic dip? i thought about doing this for different things, just never did. But your insight might change that..
I like it .. and I will be doing more stuff as well .. not sure of the longevity yet .. but I think , if you clean it like they say (I sandblasted) it should last a long time .. .
