yippie .. I have a floor ;D some essential pieces for the mock up .. corrugated plastic , an LGD , and the fiberglass trany tunnel I made way back when .... and some fiberglass .
mock up today of the rear seat area ..... rear seats "loosly" fit in to place .. time to start on seat belt location + some extras .... seatbelts and roll bar are going to be tied into the support frame (all trekkers have em) that I will be custom building . a look at the rear seats in position as well as the new wheel well/arm rest . .
dang! it looks really really good! if you can show us how to properly do fiberglass, i may do it too. btw, how's the 2wd truck coming along?
i have been thinging of doing some Utube vids ... but just havent had the time .. If you have a look and do a search , I know you will find something .. i have watched a few . 2wd is getting anxious to find a place in the shop !!! as soon as this Trekker is done .. to 2WD has a home I cant wait !!!!!!!! .
rear backs are now installed .. I want to still make them lay flat .. easy fix .. and that will come soon , but for now .. .
little bit done today started on the frame to support the tub , and tie into the roll bar and seat belts started with building the main supports .. and yes the tops are NOT level . This is due to the uneven fiberglass floor . ready to go (4 built ) starting to "piece" it all together drivers side passenger side is different , because of the fuel filler tube .. had to be routed over top . all sectioned together and ends plugged ... I have too very strong mounts and mounted still have to build the cross bars ... But it will have to wait till after I pull the tube off for rienforcing .. the glass will add to the thickness of the tub , so I cant build the final floor support untill the tub is done .. .
excellent day ... got my check list done... feet welded on the bar and my goal today was to have the seats basically done.. I have welded the locks and covers .. (you can see in the pic) lock button supports welded headrest supports welded seat back cushions "carved" and fitted also got the roll bar mounts done.. well tacked anyway ... I decided I didnt need the "swivel joints" anyway .. the sub frame is mounted on rubber bushings , and the whole tub will flex as a unit .. good to go !! also started work on the rear tub member ... I dont think the thickness of the glass will be a problem , as the underside on this section is almost done anyway .. still have to weld it ... but heres were I finished up the day at sorry for the crappy pics... my "good" camera took a dive for the worst .. so i'm dealing with my phone for now .. .
got a wee bit of work on the rear lower seat hinges today .. I took the original 4Runner lower seat hinges and cut them down then welded up 1 of the brackets .. tacked them on .. and did a test fit .. COOL !!! it's goint to work awesome .
1 more thing buttoned up today ... made some "pockets" to seal the seatbelts from the elements .. how the seat belt fits !! and installed .
its those little details that make me love it. lol. do you have better pictures of how the seats latch to the wheel wells? because dont they have side latches? i need to figure out something like that for my dodge backseat when i do the pumpkin clearance for space. the latch is in the middle on the floor. it almost looks like you used toyota door latches and strikers. lol. i might just have to come up with something. i also gotta cut out the lower section of the seat. its giving me ideas though. thanks for the great build.
thanks ... yep i used the original latches from the 4Runner seats .. and just cut them off and moved them down a bit .. bloted new strikers on the new whwwl tubs ... and VIOLA .. just check bac a few pics .. they have been detailed in the build ..
THANKS. thats super badass. gives me lots of ideas for mine. i think if i raised the entire floor of the truck, except the area the rear seat sits in and/or trimmed the base thinner, i could have it body dropped with the seat being about the same distance from the roof. and trim the front seat bases. cuz that truck neeeeds a body drop. lol. on a static. its how i roll
no worries ... I'm building a 2WD as well -- full custom frame , supra suspension and a 400HP 7MGTE ..... it's scedualed for a body drop as well .. I hear ya brutha' .
some work on the seats today .... got the hinge holes welded up , ground and sandblasted again all welded to the seat frames .... and installed and working awesome also built a "locking" post for the seats .. so they will work like factory and installed and working great ... took some time to build this and make it work properly .. I also started the new front kick panels .. little sneek peek .
ya know, at this rate i think you could have it in a usable state by the march hilux meet. i think everyone would love to see it in person. the level of work should help inspire alot of the NW guys to really get crackin on their projects. and every time i see it i wanna do my 78 that way. lol. i will be making a canvas top for the rear, and putting a big sunroof but this thing is still drivin me nuts. lol.
standardbyker88, you should do the top in the back like a deuce and a half and the same paint scheme with similar wheels. I just want like a 3inch static drop, decent paint and 200hp LOL simple goals I think, traction, who needs that.
