I have a 1988 Toyota drift truck and im building a n/a 20/22r but I know that there is a power cap!! and anyone that has had power under there foot after a bit you want/NEED more power! . . . I would love to keep the cost down ,not have to modify the oil pan and pick up (4age -4a silver/black top) wouldnt mind going v8 but still have the price cap and NEED a stick any help would be great! thank you for your time .
bump? anyone have any idea's? I mean come on meow this is a toyota forum right? lol anyone know of a good rwd yota motor?
1uz-fe is a lexus motor I would recomend. Cheap swap not really. Cheapest v8 swap would be a 302 probably
yeah I have thought about the lez v8 but the darn bellhousings are bank!! and I will NEVER put a 302 in anything lol I think I would do the mopar 318 before the 302 and a 350 before anything else lol thanks for the input tho .. anyone know the dimensions of a tundra v8 and standard trans?
yeah the 7m is a good motor would only do the gte if I did it ... but it is almost the same weight as a sbc and they dont have a cheep aftermarket like the sbc dose what about the 2r or 3r maybe boosted? anyone on here boost one before?
Twinturbotaco has a boosted 2rz and predrazor i think, or someone with a 7x something. Seems like a bad ass motor.
Turbo = expensive! v8 = not so much, but still expensive. Could easy spend 2+ grand on a sbc install. Brian (TRfknD) has a boosted 2RZ taco. Runs (or at least did run)really good. He's goin to the next step built wise. IDK how much he has into his truck/motor, but I bet its a lot. But a 2RZ swap takes a custom oil pan.
Turbo, is just expensive in general. With my 7psi build I have about 2 grand into it. Next step with internals add another 1,500 into the build. It should be fun at 15-20psi w/ cams!!! In general the turbo was the most expensive piece. The megasquirt I got specially built for my taco and had a friend wire it up for me so it's a plug n play to the stock harness for 300 bones. Not bad for a full standalone system!
My vote is dodge small block. Using V6 Dakota bellhousing will bolt an R or W series Toyota trans to a dodge small block; depending on bellhousing year. (87-91 ax5 for W, 92-00 ax15 for R trans). Can get front or rear sump oil pans from stock cars/trucks, and they are pretty easy to build and don't need all the aftermarket valve train of a Chevy to run a mild cam.
