Non-essential question #92: I have the long hooked rod for releasing the spare tire carrier. For a handle I use Vise-Grips, since they're in my tool kit anyway. But I seem to remember, from my 1974 Hilux, a steel handle that slipped over that squared-off end. Does anyone here have one and can tell me what it looks like, or possibly even where to get one for not too much? I suppose I could make one easily enough...

"Bottle jack crank handle" should come up with search results. In quick search I saw you can get one from CruiserCorps for $15. I think every Toyota I've had came with one of those, so I'd guess you can find a donor vehicle and grab the jack kit.

When you get old like me just get the right size torx socket and a cordless impact drill. Beats the heck out of all that spinning and knuckle banging.

I hear you, Fred. I'm 70 with thumb joints completely blown out. I use every labor-saving tool I can find. And a kneeling pad.
