The reason I wouldn't personally do over the top is because it's the one thing I love about these Toyota trucks. From an outsider looking in (haven't bought one yet), these trucks can be purchased/restored/modified for DIRT cheap! It'd be cool to see an "over the top" build I guess but magazines do that stuff all the time. Reliable and quality parts put on to a reliable Toyota mini, lookin' good while ridin' good and turnin' good...that makes me warm and fuzzy more than a magazine show piece. I'm not baggin on you or the Over the Top idea...I just haven't seen a scene like the Toy Mini scene where you could have so much fun on a college student, three-dudes-in-an-apartment, Ramen-noodle-every-night budget. LOL For example, for YEARS I've wanted to build a 68 C10 (noticed your 67 in your sig), guys over on that forum say they're cheap to buy and build...but not as cheap as these! lol I think for what I'd want to do to a C10, I'd still be spending a LOT. Not a rant, just a response. Hahaha
I know what your saying. I love these trucks just the way they are also. Mine isn't going to change much besides a little performance and lowering it a bit. I just thought it would be cool to see some kind of Frankenstein toy that's just tricked out beyond belief! Something like a old school rat rod but has really expensive parts put in it that performs better than any exotic super sports car. But I'm just dreaming.
OTT build Mid engine GT 500 5.4 ltr with a healthy supercharger upgrade 21psi or so (850 HP range), bolted to a Mendola S4D transaxle, Carbon Works upper and lower control arms (2.2 lbs each), Haltech Spindles and Brembo 6 piston calipers, QA1 coil overs. Full chromoly tube chassis. Carbon body with Apex window glass. MOD7 Gauge panel http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/10/MOD7-R.jpg/800px-MOD7-R.jpg Carbon Roll cage, Kirky seats, 17" rotors all the way around Race craft front control arms and spindles. 10 gal custom front mount fuel tank. extractor hood. aluminum radiator, air to water charge cooler, hid headlights, LED tail and markers. 2" chop top. Pearl White with a guardsman red stripe to hide the carbon body. Sugar Momma to pay for it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Till then, Stacks and a hood scoop covering up that 302. Ran 10.64 on my stock 93 5 spd. with a centerforce clutch. Fragged the right rear axel going into 3rd. Gonna swap in an 8.8 that came out of the engine donor.
Once I finish a few more things on my 78 I am gonna find another 2nd gen. It will be plenty chopped up with lots of power and good suspension. Gonna shorten the wheelbase to 90", and unibody it as an SUV. Sort of Bronco II scale. With an 8" traditional chop top. Big open sunroof, 3rd gen supra IFS (after seeing a few swapped in, it looks simple enough), 318 Dodge V8 with a V6 toyota 5 speed stick. '63 GMC quad headlight grille, 70s dodge truck front bumper, sheel metal grille shell, 60s AMC tail lights, 90-95 4runner back bumper, ect. Most of it can be found at junk yards. I have plenty of dodge engines in the shop. Biggest expense will be finding the truck itself mostly. I can explain more, but I am saving a few tricks for the actual build. I have lots of the parts already. Like the GMC grille, AMC tail and marker lights, engine, interior stuff, ect. The rest isnt too tough to find.
