hes got a 89 22r. I would not use that chain, I would spend a few bucks more and get a new kit from advance or ebay... I really wouldnt trust ebay or any non oem timing stuff 40k seams like too many miles to put all that work into it.

yea definatley what do you guys think of duralast parts from autozone? that was who made this timing set. i can get just the chain for like 17.99.

im thinking i could use the stock timing gear and be ok?

As long as there is no visible damage to the gear, it's not an issue. Clean it good and checkit very carefully for any cracks or nicks. if it's clean then you're good. Any visible wear and it should be tossed. You don't wanna take any chances with it. How does the cam sprocket look?

Defiantely a new chain, don't even mess with it. Just like used brakes, not something to ever be reused... too much of a safety issue. :meemee:

im fairly certain that the cam gear is fine. but ill definatley double check before putting it back together you know. i dont want to do this 3 times. (knock on wood)

use your factory cam gear, gunna be better then duralast bs....unless its got obvious wear to it... just buy the new chain, some gaskets, call it a day..

so i found a timing cover off an 85 on craigslist. but the guy says it has 3 studs instead of the 2 i had for the water pump.

would this fit on my engine? and is the water pump mounting location the same?

I'm pretty sure the block changed in 86...
Before that was a bit different...
Something with the block deck height I think...?
So I don't think it will fit!?

I looked at some blocks from Belltech and they didn't help much either. They have 2 kinds 84-95, and for the taco's. the only thing I can think of is the drive line angle difference?

your good, hes dumb the timing cover should fit from 84 up. the studs come out, fall out, and get lost or stuck to the nuts you take off when you pull it off... so if anything get a vice grip and pull a studd out, or put a nut on it.

    This sounds dirty.

Aren't all timing covers the same?
