I think that lineton mentioned that if you change something on the motor the chances of the headgasket going out is decreased. I think he was also talking about using megasquirt to make it reliable.
the heads can use a stud kit design and this should make it a bit more reliable for the hg's to last longer. the v6's arent bad motors........ they make decent power and torque. for the most paart thats really the only complaint about em is the hg's. much like the 22rx motors, the hg's and timing chains are the only concerns for the motors...
I have a 91 xtracab with the 3.0 and an auto. I've had it for just over 2 years. I don't know if the head gasket has been done or not. This thing has over 200k miles and still runs strong. It blows away any 22re truck I have ever driven as far as torque and just overall power and I've had a few. I'm not saying it's a great motor but it can be a reliable motor which mine seems to be(<<<kiss of death?). Ya it can be a bitch to work on with it being so tight in there. Ya the motor has known issues. Ya there aren't alot of mods for it. The power and torque of the 22re doesn't even come close to the 3.0 but you can mod it easier. I'm not trying to sell you either way. I'm just trying to give you what I know about it. All I'm saying is if I found the perfect truck and it had a 3.0, I would buy it. That's why I bought this, because it had everything I wanted in a Toy.
