The late model laser block is aprox 3/16" shorter than the early block, they use the same rods and crankshaft as the early engine, just a shorter flat top piston than the early domed piston. The Laser block uses a 96 link chain compared to the earlier 98 link chain, the early head is also slightly taller than a late model head.
