Finally pulled my gas tank, weather was nice enough. The hoses needed to be replaces anyway, and was getting a lot of fine rust in my fuel filters, which I have 2 of them... Hope nothing got into my pump or carburetor.

But that gas tank is full to the TOP. Going to drain it and buy some stuff to clean it once I have cash to spend on it. Buying a 97 pathfinder right now my moneys tied up in that.

Did you pull the bed to get to the tank or did you just do it from underneath? Started to pull mine this past weekend and one of the bolts holding the bracket snapped on me.

Did it from underneith, was only 6 bolts, its been pulled by someone in the past, 1 of the bolts was missing, I had to cut one of the lines it was so dry rotted and wouldnt come off. On mine the tank is bolted to the bed not the frame. so pulling the bed wouldnt do anything

Mine (72' RN22) is bolted to the bed like yours. If you pulled the bed you'd have more access to those bolts facing the backside of the cab - don't you think?

Although, for now, I'd rather not pull the bed if I don't have to.

Eventually, I will. But just not, now.

I found it really easy to do unless your truck is slammed.

It has no springs in my signature picture, but I am going to lower it some more than it is right now with springs.

found out why it quit running. The fuel filters looked fine when it quit, for some reason they dont now, weird. Maybe it was too dark to notice it. But tons of fine rust got in there... Hope it didnt mess up my pump or carb. I think it just clogged the pickup when it quit running, the bowl in the carb wouldnt fill up and nothing come out of the lines when I turned it over or had a electric pump on it

any way pics are fun., aslo im getting a fuel cell and mounting it in the bed for more clearance under the truck, going to find a tool box with a lock on it and cut the bottom of it out and mount it over the fuel cell in there... Tired of dealing with gas tanks under stuff.

sorry they are such big pictures

Oh, wow - damn. That is bad. When I siphoned what remaining gas there was in the tank all kinds of grainy crap was coming out. Starting to rain before I could get much out. But I imagine it isn't going to be much different than what you had.

I've been kinda debating going with a different fuel cell, myself. Since my 77' is eventually going to be the donor truck, was considering using it's fuel cell. Especially since it already has a pump!

    We'll see.

Anyhow, great job getting that tank out of there. I've snapped two bolts already trying to do mine.

    LOL

Yeah, someone took it out before I got to it, or atleast they loosened the bolts, one of those hoses on the top was new so I guess it was leaking and they fixed it... Im getting a plastic fuel cell from summitracing, unless I find one for cheaper elsewhere...

Well need to get the truck going for sure now :D. Found a small fuel cell I can use for now,

Alternator went out, so car died, poped hood just checked it all and junk, then closed it, push started it and drove another 7 miles, hoped on interstate, hood flew up(didnt latch it I guess LOL), so had to get on side of the road, unbolted it and left it on the interstate(out of the way, the SCDOT told me it was fine to leave it). and drove it back just on the alt. battery was fully dead, so drove it another few miles barly running, Zs dont let ya down :D. I dont have the money to tow it but its a brand new alt. It has a warrenty so ill have to get one... I dont care was going to swap all this crap into a better body later on in the summer, this windshield was busted any way but I cant drive it like this.

Picked up a 5gallon fuel cell for the truck today. Seems small doesnt it? well I dont drive far everyday and never really do any long driving, im always broke and put like 5-10 bucks in each day anyway in my 300zx. so i rarely have over 5 gallons, the guy who sold it to me laughed when i said it was for a street driven truck

Any one know if I should leave the foam in the fuel cell or take it out, I dont think it is needed really on a truck that will be driven on the street

Its a RJS with an fittings, 6 bucks for any barb adapter and going to cap off the return and other feed. Im going to make a mount for the back of the bed at the cab and make it look like a tool box and it will have a lock. Ive had problems with gas tanks and tired of them so got a plastic one :D. Maybe its ghetto, maybe it isnt, I really dont care as long as it works. Could have used a 5gal gas jug but cant seal those and I dont feel that it would have been safe at all. only paid 25 bucks for it and its in good condition.

Also think im going to go with this fuel pump, the stock mechanical one seems to have problems getting the fuel from the tank to the carb if air gets in the line, very anoying, plus I think a electric one is better. This is the one I believe that comes on the 73 coronas that had the 18rc, the trucks didnt get electric ones though.

Ordered all the AN fuel fittings for the tank(from jegs), if they come in today(friday the 26)... I hope they do, I really need to be able to move it from where it is sitting and im too lazy to move it. Ordering fuel pump later, the mechanical one still works fine, Its just not good if air gets in the line.

Got the fuel cell in the back of the truck, as ghetto as that is, but drove it down the road. Carb still needs some tuning but I got it where it can be driven, its rich because when I hit the gas it shoots out some black smoke, it doesnt at idle so I assume its not too lean or too rich, I need to change the oil it smells like gas from when i had it rebuilt and was trying to tune it myself and was failing.... It also wont idle down, idling probably 3000... not good. Ill adjust all that tomorrow and take a video. It also needs a muffler bad, thought it would be ok just strait pipe but its horrible.

Next on my list of things to do once I get the fuel cell all done, still need to make a box for it, is 2 wheel cylinders that leak, shocks all around and find some stiffer springs for the front(going to look at tocoma springs, or mercedes springs, those springs are stiff and really thick), it drives horrible. A muffler too but thats a quick fix.

Ordering outer tie rods ends, 3 ball joints(1 is new already), door weather stripping, front shocks.

Getting a 1977 parts truck next weekend. So once I know what brake parts ill need im probably going to order new rotors, caliper, still need one more new brake line, I already replaced one. Probably going to go ahead and change the rear brake lines while im at it.

I picked up Xterra springs, not sure what year, they made them from 2000+ so... But out of all the vehicles in the yards this was the only one I could find that would work. It should work but I havnt checked it, just took a rough measurement of the stock hilux coil spring, these seem pretty stiff, coming off of a 4000lb suv they should work fine. Hopefully they are 200+lb spring rate.

Also got a Toyota Paseo steering wheel.

I know this is an extremly exciting thread...

But, picking up a 1977 sr5, 20r, 5spd in the morning... Havnt seen any pictures of it. Ill post pics tomorrow of it when I get it home, trading a Savage 17hmr rifle and 100 bucks for it, He wanted 350, and I have 270 in this rifle and the scope, had it for 4 or 5 years now, so got my use out of it.

120 mile drive one way... with gas and a towdolley, ill probably be spending 100 just to get it, and 100 to buy it, so 200 bucks out of my pocket, guess its better than 450 right? But if this truck isnt that nice ill get the disc brakes from it, swaybar, tail gate, 5spd, anything else I need. Might not be able to get a title for it so...

All my parts will be in tomorrow, already got parts for my exhaust and my kyb g2 shocks.

Got my parts in, and got my parts truck...

The parts truck runs, drives but is kind of scary, steering is iffy, brakes are iffy, cuts off because of gas pedal not coming back so I idle'd it down so it would rev sky high.... but this is the oilyest engine I have ever seen so much oil on it it was smoking from burning the oil on the outside of the engine haha. I traded a gun and a scope that were worth about 270 new and I gave him 100 bucks for the truck, I had the gun for about 4 years and it wasnt worth 270 any more.... didnt shoot it much so I thought it was a heck of a deal, it has what i need hood, tail gate. Took about 60 bucks in gas and 50 to rent a tow dolley. 14 mpg in my brothers jeep.

But i pulled the brakes and spindles off, cleaned one side up so far, ordered new calipers and got new pads...

200 bucks worth of parts lol, doesnt look like much
    [IMG]

77 sr5, only stuff im using from this truck are the spindle/knucle, tail gate, hood, some dash parts, maybe the front grill. Might use the rear end, I think its a 4.11, Not sure what my 73 is as the fenders were cut out.
