The plate is normally on the driver’s side inner fender. It might be buried under grime or accessories, but it should be there.
Found it, for me it was on the passenger's inner fender. W52!!! Had a feeling it was a W50 or W52 but i wasn't for sure, but now we know!
Just a suggestion. If you switch transmission type, log it somewhere on the plate. This way if you sell in the future, new owner will know exactly what type of transmission is installed.
I doubt I'll ever do that, unless magically mine decides to crap out on me and the only option is to swap in a different one, but i'll keep it in mind. In other news, does anyone know how to remove the boot off the shifter? It appears its held underneath the flooring with 4 screws but i can't seem to figure out how to get to them...
Been stumped with this boot conundrum, do I have to remove the seat and the interior vinyl flooring to get to it or something? Also the FSM mentions a Special Service Tool to remove the shifter; anyone know a workaround for that or do I have to pull the trigger on one of those weird spanners too?
Ill keep that in mind! Do you also know how to remove the shifter boot and get access to the screws underneath? Or are the screws not necessary for examining the shifter linkages underneath?
My shifter boot was pretty much gone when I got my rig. Ended up cutting the factory boot completely off and installing a universal aftermarket boot. I think it was from speedway motors. I’m sure google would turn up other sources.
Couldn't find much specific to removing the boot online, IH8MUD, YotaTech, more of showcases of different guys' shifter boots but nothing about removing 2WD ones specifically.
Which boot are you struggling with? I cant imagine it being that hard to pull the damn thing off. Can you post pictures of it?
Both, but I've been stuck past the step of unscrewing the shift knob since the manual doesn't explain how to remove the boot, and online i've only found posts of people changing their stock/non-existent ones on mainly 4x4 models. From what I could see, the boot is held on by 4 screws underneath the vinyl matting but getting to unscrew it doesn't seem easy unless you rip out all the matting atleast from what I could tell; doesn't help much since there's already a decent-sized tear on my interior flooring by the shifter underneath the boot too.
Remove atleast one seat and the door sill. Should give you enough space to roll the mat up and get to the boot. doesnt seem like the best design idea tho
Check with a Toyota dealer parts department. They should have factory part numbers and availability. Personally, I’d just go aftermarket and be done with it.
For my bench seat, think I might need a second person to do that so that'll be fun (to not bang it up at least) If this is true, this should be easy then, seat removal aside, and the door sill is the little plastic bit on the bottom of the doors that protect the edges right?
