Here is an odd ball and quite rare. It came out of a 90 1 ton with 3.07 gears and it is a 8" ring gear. $50 and located in Binghamton NY. James
Like the title says, it is the third. I need the axle because I'm going with a V8. I did confirm it is an 8". I installed a 4.10 3rd out of a 4x4 truck in this axle housing. I also counted the splines on the axle shafts which was 30 unlike 27 of the 7.5". Where are you located? My bet says Cali. I think my local yards have another one of these. Actually you can get these rears out of 2wd if they came with a 4 speed trans. It does not have to be a 1 ton but the only years they put a 4 speed in them where 88 and older from what I have seen. Nice truck by the way. James
Oh, if you are ever in the yard, just look at the 2wd trucks with the axle code that starts with a "G". James
wowow I have a 1989 2wd with a 4 speed original ! does this mean I have an 8 inch ? how can I tell ? im considering a v8 swap as well and I wanted to make sure i can afford to beef my drive train to handle it. and no im not in cali lol im in tampa florida. looking at your avatar you got a clean truck to ! this is my vin if you can tell me from that? I know by looking at my nissan titans vin I can tell what packages it has JT4RN81R4K5009021
Toyota's do not need a VIN. On the drivers door jamb you will see this if it hasn't been taken off or painted over: And here is the gear codes: http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=274535 The gear code for my diff was G662 which is a 3.07. James
it says g662 so by the charts I see I have an 8 inch but I have no idea how to read the rest ! help ? lol
Thats all you need to know. The other stuff tells you transmission, color of the car and the trim. The G662 is a 3.07 8" rear. You have exactly what I have. For gears, head down to the junkyard and get a 4wd diff. Print the code and bring it with you. Most of the 4wd trucks are going to be g292 which is 4.10 gears. g292: 4.10 g282: 4.30 g254: 4.56 g144: 4.88 These 3rd members will bolt in and swap with the rear you have now. I recommend NOT going over 4.10. In my 93 which is the 7.5 axle, I have 4.56 with a posi which I had installed since it came out of my 87 2wd prerunner truck. Does not like the highways speeds James
Then you need a Ford 9" no if's and's or but's. This guy live on Long Island. Watch the video and at the end it gives the specs: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/BURNOUTS-IN-MY-TOYOTA-is_67332.htm James
wouldnt i have to get my axles shortened with the ford 9inch ? I dont want 500 plus hp, Just a stock 350 chevy, plus i wont be raping it like an ape all that much with gas prices... this truck is my gas saver lol !
Yeah,4.56 is pretty low gearing! Had that ratio in a 59 Ely. w/ a 348 cu.in . eng. & 3 2's . It would wind up high on the freeway!!
I will tell you right now, if I even had a 7MGE engine in this thing it would be quick. It is quick for what it is with these gears but the stock engine falls on its face around 4500. Highway kind of sucks but it is nice it can accelerate in 5th gear! James
Thank you for tha call James and the help. If anyone else has some 3.07gears i'll take them if they are in good condition.. I'm buildng some portal axles and the high ratio is perfect...... Thanks agin. v-8 titan If you upgrade to lower gears i'm intrested in your 3.07's...
