adding to the site- i did this in 2003- here are the pics i took of the AFM.again its a 3" in 3" out afm. i still dont know what toyota year modle it came off of but all i know is is that it works with out a glitch in my toy. i still dont have it perminent ly installed but am working on geting it. n e way i put it in for 5 mins and reved the motor and held rpms for a few mins and no check engine light and no probs with Air fule ratio. For a bit more info on the Supra MAF swap, check here: http://celica-gts.com/efi_intake.shtml So according to the celica site: "Toyota made two sizes of AFM and unfortunately our 22RE got the smaller one. You can swap the bigger AFM from an 1982 Toyota Supra in with NO MODIFICATIONS . But 1983-86 Supra AFMs had different electronics. It is possible to swap the Celica electronics into the Supra AFM case but it is a hassle" that means that the AFM that your going to get is that off of a 82 toyota celica/supra part number 22250-43110 came up as a 1982 Toyota Celica Supra mass air flow sensor.
yeah but make sure it has the same numbers at the one listed above, if not it wont work, and u will have to swtich over the electronics, the one with the same number is plug and play
I have the AFm from a 82 supra. Plug and play in my 93 22re. Truck revs smoothly from 3500 to redline right now.Much improved. Best bang for the buck. I will post some pics once I get my camera back.
would this upgrade work on the v6? and where would i find the numbers at such as where they are located at?
Well I picked up an 82 celica AFM from none other than wonderful ebay about a month ago... Got a chance to install yesterday! woohoo!! Anyway.... AWESOME....!!! Well worth the cash time and effort... Truck has never run smoother or had such throttle response... Toyota really screwed us with the stock AFM I am running a TRD header with no cat and a custom 3" exhaust I swapped my battery to the drivers side and made my own short ram air intake. Other than that the truck is stock this has been the best change yet!!!
So this will work with the electronics of basically any toyota EFI of similar era I take it? Somebody said it worked on their 86 MR2. I have a guy that wants me to pep up his 22RE, and I told him a bigger AFM and remove the emissions stuff would be a nice step along with a ported intake. He pays good for what I've done so far. And I wanna take a crack at an EFI minor build. Seems if it makes the truck nicer to drive, he is down for it. Anyways, this info was helpful. I bookmarked it.
