Hello again from Caribbean, Finally got some time to get back to the mini yota build. Nothing really has changed since my welcome thread post since i haven't had the time to get on it. Long story short, the 22re is out and i test fitted the 3rz into the bay. Gearbox from 2.4 2rz taco, oil pan (rear sump) from 2.4 2rz jap hiace van. Ran into some expected hurdles with clearence. Oil pan needs massaging to clear steering and new mounting brackets to line up with factory frame mounts. My biggest issue is the fact that when bolted up to manual transmission, the rear of my alternator is sitting on the edge of the left frame mount and the exhuast manifold touches the fire wall (motor extremely close in general). So i've decided to shim the transmission mount forward about 1/2". This will help with some of my clearance issues hopefully. Will keep updating as i go along.
Got some fab work done today on the tranny mount and test fitted. Drawn forward roughly 1/2 inch which corrected my firewall spacing issue, It is still quite close but managable, exhaust manifold no longer touches firewall and alternator has enough clearance from frame mounting point also. A little rough, but came out good enough in my opinion Next step will be to remove the steering and get the motor seated to mounts at correct height and figure how to work around it. Will update as i go along, Cheers.
Got some fab work done to the original 3rz brackets and fitted into place. I anticipate to have some clearance issues on the bottom end still, that I'll have to take a good look at to get around, but there is still a bit of room above that I should be able to shim the engine upwards if need be. Left side bracket (alternator side) Right side bracket (Compressor side) Don't look at the mount , it's what came with the truck when I bought it and is only being used for fitment and line up purposes Alternator clearance Had a small mishap with the right side bracket, seems something had shifted before final measurement, so my angle was off after welding, I had to shim the lower end of the bracket approx 3mm to get it lined just right. Firewall spacing, now that motor is seated in mounts. Clearance between top of intake manifold and hood. Will update again once I've gotten some more done. Cheers.
Might want to add an angle gusset on the tab that bolts to the frame? Alot of weight and torque on that flat tab.
Yes for sure. As soon as I get the bottom end sorted out I will have the brackets gusseted for reinforcement before painting. I was wondering if there is a rack and pinion conversion option with power steering for the 93 pickup.
Yes this is the one I was looking at but I was wondering if the manual R&P from the 89 mustang would be the only option. Would like to keep the power steering.
Veiwer discretion is advised. Slight modification to sump hopefully to clear steering. Sump originally from 2rz toyota hiace van (Japanese)
