I found some pic of my stout just before I picked it up.I don't remember it looking this bad.lol.Well I think most people would have junked it but not me.:looney:It was too far gone to restore so thats why its getting a "Ratrod" build on the cheap.
The plan is simple, get it back on the road.
The wheels didn't turn anymore (well one started to when we loaded it)
The plug were out of the motor for a long time, est.15-20 years.
Missing the seat bottoms and the floors were very bad(rusty)

started by removing the bed and cab, saved a few other pieces from the frame and motor.
I was given one donor truck, a 87 carbed ,auto trans,2wd. the truck only had 60k on it and had been in a grarge for the last 14 years.I thought I had a motor ,trans and frame, but the frame was hit and it would have blown my budget to straighten it.So I pick up a $50 93 rolling frame. Some 2in spindles, 3in lowered rear springs, ordered 3in drop control arms,One more parts truck (a 87 single wheel 1 ton w/100k on it 4 $150).

So it ends up(someday) 22r w/60k,w56 5spd,8in rear end w/4.30:1.All sitting on a dropped(5/6) 93 frame. Its going to be a work in progress once it driving.
Plan is to leave the body flat black and clean up the rust issues.Fat tires out back almost looking tubed and had some old school "ladder bars" I'll use.

this is exactly the kind of condition stout that i'm hoping to find! but mainly cuz i don't want to cut up a mint one... lol

i say mild build, if you want tire burning fun i'd say go with a (small) small block. they would be much cheaper to hop up then the 22r.

If anyone is looking for a stout i found one in PA, I went and looked at it once, and didnt buy it because the floors and doors were rusted real bad!! but! if anyone is able to do the work to it, its not too horrible ( i dont think its worth it ) but i cant do any of that stuff.. the guy doesnt know **** about the truck really, i know he will pull it off ebay and take 2500.. it ran good, rusted floors doors and looked like the frame was patched at one point.. idk if its worth it to any one

that looks pretty solid actually. i wouldnt imagine finding one much better for cheap. a 22r with a header, weber 38/38 or 32/36, a good ignition, and a mild cam will be plenty fun for that truck. similar setup works great in my 78. thing hauls for stock cam and bottom end.

I think that stout in pa sold in up state new york a little while back for less than a grand.Well maybe worth the money.Have you west coast folks ever seen a truck rotted in half with less than 90k?:doah:
I only spent $300 on mine but it did come with perks. Also came with all red taillights made for a fj45.It was like buying the lenses and getting a free truck.lol

I have an old nwor cam kit I never used,A used weber, think its the 32/36,I only have 4x4 headers so might need to pick up a shorty and a MSD ignition set up.

But yes it does clear.Might have to roll the fender still.
New fuel tank is going in the bed at the head board.I have to come up with a return line some how.Maybe a "T" on the bottom?Does anyone know how this may react? Also might add a sump on the bottom and then add a return.

I gots no truck, for now
ive never heard of anyone useing a "t" for a return. I would think it would back flow into the return and cause issues...unless a check valve was installed somewhere after the "t" but before the starting of your return line....

You must have got the pics, good luck with the build, not what I pictured when we were pulling it out of the earth, but that's why it's yours now! :waytogo:

The rear clip does look a bit better.
