The way you have described it is correct. This allows the pivot point to be on the same axis as the LCA.

No you can delete it too. The little adapter at the rear of the intake....has 3 ports. Loop the vacuum line from the fpr to that...and remove the vsv.
Besides looks the intake isn't gaining you any thing. Maybe on the high side of the rpm band. I'd switch back and just put a factory replacement k&n.
The grey vsv is for the ac. And the vacuum lines go to the spring loaded valve threaded into the intake.
I thought 79-83 was the same .

You will have to drop the bolt in cross member. Then unbolt the motor mounts. Place a jack under the trans bell housing and then jack the engine...
