Been distracted from working on the truck between doing work on the house and helping my fiancée with wedding stuff. Plan is hopefully in January il be replacing seal on the output shaft in the trans, shifter seat/bushing things. And i need to adjust the carb float and check what jets are in it. I have a bit of a fuel smell in the oil. Il also be aquiring my dads '95 Silverado early next year which needs some work too. Gonna be fun
Well now that the wedding has passed, its time to start getting back to working on the truck. Did a compression test a week or so ago and the numbers ranged from 130 to 140 across all 4. Truck was cold, somewhere in the 50° range so im not too sure where these number stand(i know i shouldve warmed it up some) im going to replace the plugs and wires(one had a cut on the insulation and another broke the clip off on the sparkplug) Started tackling the rust on the roof and all i have to say is that i shouldve taken care of it a lot sooner. Its coming off but its putting up a fight.
Took me a while to notice, but I also want to upgrade the front end. I just picked up a '76 Grille and valance. I was mocking it up, but noticed the middle support wasnt lining up well. Did you have to modify anything?
So a couple of weeks ago i decided to bring out the old factory fender for the truck and compare it to the blue one i had put on and it definitely needs work too but it should be easier to repair. Here are pics of it sanded and primered no body work done
Those body lines look crisp. This weekend I attempted to face lift my truck, but the tabs on my core support are not compatible with the newer grille... Torn because I don't want to modify them.
When i put mine on its just held with zip ties. Il be modifying them or just removed them from the core support and relocate them to where they will work. Even then only 2 will kind if work
Ahh, I see. Zip ties ftw! I have this donor Cab with the core support and the tabs, but we'll see. Theres lots more differences between the early models and the late ones. Damnnit Toyota!
Yep, headlight buckets are different too, they mount about the same but i had to oval out the mounting holes so things could line up
Picked up some Pacer Supreme 15x8 unilugs over the weekend, threw one on up front. Need to test fit out back
Small update, rear wheels poked out over an inch from the bedside, not going to work out for what im wanting to do. Wheels will be up for sale just to get back what i spent. In other news, I ordered a 8 piece C Notch which should be coming in the next couple of weeks. Also ordered the matching quad gauge from Speedhut. Im excited to get that in
Speedhut gauge finally came in. Im really excited to get this thing installed but im going to wait til i start on the C notch. Itl be much easier to run the wiring to the tank when the bed is off
Pre registration for All Toyotafest in Long Beach opened yesterday so i said screw it il be there. Now i need to get the Hilux cleaned up. Hopefully we can finish up our home renovations in the next couple weeks so i can finally switch focus tk the truck
love the build. i just went through the whole topic. <3 one question, can you post a photo of the backside of the each headlight? Where the BMW light go though? I have them but did not install them as I thought they wouldn't fit with the space (battery and coolant overflow/water fluid res)? so bad ass man.
Removing the stock fuel gauge and dummy light housing and putting it there. Need to figure out what to do about the turn signals but i still have time
Finally got around to pulling the cluster out. Here is the quad gauge and speedo mounted. Didnt have much time to do much else
