W58 is a desriable one because of 5th gear. If you can get it cheap do it

Both are 5 speed transmissions. Why is the W58 better? Especially if the G54 is almost a perfect swap.

I can pick it up for $200 . It has some miles on it but i don’t think that 20r can hurt it any. I just want a fairly easy swap.

Make sure you have a bellhousing that's correct for a 20r/22r to W58 transmission. The older 20r bellhousing is NOT a compatible match. The 5 speed transmissions that were originally offered was the w50, which has a different bell than the later w55/w56/w57/w58/w59 transmissions took

I have an extra if you're anywhere near Houston, TX.

I’m in Springfield Mo. I can’t find any parts around here. I’m wanting to Ls swap it Eventually I’m thinking the w58 would hold up.

The w58 will hold up to a small LS swap if you're not launching it at the strip, but if you want to put any amount of power adders on it or drive like a jackass (like I would), you're going to be looking at upgrading more of your drivetrain. It may be worth your time and money to send the transmission off to Marlin Crawler for a heavy duty upgrade to the internals when you LS swap it, so it can take the added power

Yeah i already figured l would need to beef my rear end up for sure. But i wasn’t sure on the w58 what it would hold up to.
