So I built this truck to trade to my nephew for his 4 door ford. He sold it then bought it back and I ended up buying it back from him last month. :D

It came full circle today when I traded that 4 door truck for another 84 x cab this one a 4 wheel drive that came with 2 large loads of parts. The truck has a detroit locker in the rear with 4.88's in both diffs. It is also equipped with a/c and the full meal deal sr5 package sunroof included. I'll have pics of both trucks tomorrow when I'm swapping in one of the 2 tilt/momentary wiper columns and clock into my street truck.

The plan so far is to do truck arms on the rear and a z out front to lay frame on 15's. Pretty sure that'll be easy enough.

The new photobucket can suck my nuts. Finally got my settings fingered out so we're back in action.

At this point Iit's just a standard 3" block out back, backed off torsion bars and flipped ball joints.

Nothing too special as so far but I did get a tilt column and clock swapped in. Now I need to figure out the wiring for the delayed wipers and then install an sr5 cluster.

I think if you swap the delay controller box under the dash it should all work. Thats what I heard anyways. Looks good with the jeep wheels. I always liked those ex cabs.

I looked for the original box but no dice. I'll do some searching on the subject and see if I cant locate it

    I actually have 2 of these x cabs and a 87 standard cab 2x with a jap bed. :D

This is the new one I picked up thats stuffed full of parts.

Is the 4wd one a long bed? If it is, you willing to part with that canopy? I have kinda been wanting one for mine for road trips and camping.

Its a short box. I know a buddy on your side of the mountains was giving away a long box canopy a while ago. I'll look and see if its still available.

It's still available pm me your info and I'll have him get in touch with you.

So today I got the sr5 cluster installed. Luckily the harness was already set up for a tach so I didn't have to do anything there. Just need to get a oil pressure sending unit and it'll be done.

I found the needed info on wiring up the delay wipers and got that done but it still doesn't work. I'm going to hit the wrecking yard tomorrow and find another delay module.

I'm going to steam clean the carpet that I pulled out of the 4x at work in the am so it can dry before heading home. Also pulled the console out of the truck and cleaned it for install tomorrow. It'll be nice to have carpet again, It's been over 2 years since I've had a dd with it.

I pulled the carpet, gray sr5 seats, dash mat and console out of the 4x and installed it after hitting the NASTY carpet with the steam pressure washer at work. I put the louvered stainless cover pieces on the glove box awhile back too. Kinda annoying when the sun reflects into my eyes off of it but screw it, its cool and I've never seen another one. Need to give the seats a serious cleaning then trade them to my dad since he has gray interior and tan turbo seats in his 84 x cab which makes it a great trade.

I still need to change the door panels to the full door sr5 version that were with the 4x. It sure has been handy having a spare brown sr5 interior in the bed of it. :D

Its coming along nicely. Send me a PM and i can get in touch with the canopy guy. If you need any of the little dash parts I can check the yards and my parts piles. You should find a shifter arm from a celica/corona thats not a W58. direct swap, chrome stick, and its a bit shorter. Aims a little different but that can be bent in the vice.

I'll get his info, I know he's up towards you somewhere he works for master-pull winch line.

I've got 4 dashes and whatnot so I'm good on all that stuff thanks though. :D

This truck has my original W50 out of my 78 at this point but before I sold the 78 I swapped the W45 out of my 87 1 ton into it so I could keep my W58. That W58 will be going in with a short shift conversion and aluminum flywheel when I have the time to do it. Right now it's low on the priority list along with installing the a/c hvac system that came in the bed of the 4x. Parts rigs kick ass.

I've got a 3.08 8" diff out of the 87 and a spare 3.42 7.5" diff out of an old parts truck. I'd rather keep the 3.08 diff but the 3.42 is up for grabs.

I need one for an 8". My 4.10s are killing me. I wanna stretch out all my gears. I sure don't have a lack of power to do so lol. I would kill a 7.5" in a day so no thanks on that

I ran 195/60's with 4.10's and the W58 in the 78 and turned just under 3500 rpm at 70 due to it's ginormous overdrive. My 84 has 3.42's with the same 195/60's and a W50 with a pathetic overdrive and it turns 3200 rpm at 70. You would benefit from a trans swap and it's a simple one to find too.

Trans swap is on the list, but the rear end doesn't help anything. I can hardly use 1st gear lol.

I just picked up a pair of 5.29 diffs for the wifes truck. With low pro's you'd be hard pressed to need second gear too.

I've been thinking about what gears to run in the 84, I think I'll be running my 4.56 V6 diff and save the 4.88 diff with a detroit for the 87 standard cab autoX truck.

Those are deep gears. Must be planning a tall tire. I have 225/45/17 rears.

Yup the plan is to run 15x8's up front running 195/50's with 17x9's wrapped with something in the range of 245/50's out back. I need to pick up a pair of 4x fenders and swap the jap bed off the 87 onto the 84 so the rear tires fit flush with the bed sides. I have the 8" axle out of the 87 and another narrow 8" housing from a 76 so fitment shouldn't be an issue.

Sounds like a plan. I want bigger back tires too. The 225s don't cut it.
