Looking for an OEM 5 speed shift knob from a 1989-1995 pickup or 4Runner. Prefer leather wrapped, and my interior is blue, if it matters. Anyone?
I have my stock blue plastic knob. Didn't know of them to come leather wrapped until the tacoma and newer 4runners.
Besides the plastic shift knobs, the ones like on the SR5's are urethane wrapped which resembles a leather look. Looks like the mid-80's brought the leather wrapped knobs like on the MR2 & Corolla GTS.
An aftermarket knob will have the TEQ emblem since Toyota did not make shift knobs with the TEQ emblem in the middle. All factory originals have the shift patterns.
shift knob I've been digging on this pretty hard and I've heard from a couple sources that only the SR5 trim levels had leather wrapped knobs and that they didn't always hold up well. By now they're hard to find.
You are right about the SR5 knobs not holding up well. My niece had a blue '91 4X4 SR5 and the threads on the knob came part and the quality of the leather was thin and fairly cheap. In my honest opinion, it was a terrible design by Toyota's vendor. If any of you are looking for a good shift knob, then buy the TRD leather wrapped one like I have on my truck.
