I'll be picking up a '90 or '91 (can't remember which year) mini for a daily driver soon. It's a very basic 2wd ride with a 4 speed manual tranny. The guy stated that reverse no longer works and it's difficult to get it into 2nd and 4th. Is a pre-'89 2wd 4-speed tranny a direct swap? Are they the same transmission?

W5x's work fine. W58 is the 5spd. depends what you need.
I'm assured if you can find the right transmission, you can just drop it in
