I had seen this truck sitting on this guys property, said he he has $900.00 in to it......what you guys think? I thought about buying it but can't spend the cash right now. Has 760000 some-odd miles. Cool lil truck!
if he wants $900, take it! i have an 81 SR5 and i love it! the one in the pictures looks a little rough, but looks easily salvagable.
3/4 of a million miles? unless it runs really, really smooth, i wouldn't offer more than $400, $600 if I felt lucky. However, this is because in my area these kinds of toyotas are regularly up for sale, easily 2-3 on craigslist a month with low buy-up rate (they linger for a week or 3 before either disappearing or getting traded in at a dealer). If I had to venture a guess, the lawn service guys and painters are moving on to the 90's and early 2000 trucks. Also a fair amount of 80's donors at the picknpulls and auto scrap yards in the area, so parts are easy enough to come buy (except someone seems to be snagging all the good engines, which I would do too if I'd thought of it first).
This looks like an early 1979 model (probably a production date of 08/78 or so) with a non-USA bed. The Copper Brown Metallic color is my all time favorite Toyota color. This truck even has its original dealer installed SR5 stripes. Looks like the truck has not been started in quite some time. Did the owner state that it's a running truck? The interior is a bit rough, but a thorough cleaning, seat & dash covers it will look acceptable. Another plus...factory A/C. In its present condition, I'd say no more than $800. Offer him $700.
Sr5 The truck is not running at the moment. He said it would probably need to have the carb cleaned and a battery in order to run. It seemed he was not going to budge from 900 buck.........I would buy it for 300 to 400 bucks but I did not press the issue with what he wants for the truck. I guess if it is still there for awhile I'll approach him for a better price.
If it was a short bed, I would pay $600. For comparison purposes, this running and registered daily has been up since the end of Jan with no takers at $1400. It has a ton of new parts, its registered and its an earlier 78 model. Give it another few weeks and he will probably reelist it at $1200 '78 Toyota Truck
did you mention to him that you would likely spend at least a grand just to get the engine running with an expensive carb rebuild, probably new tires, new seats, and possibly more work just to get it in drive-able condition? i find that over exasperating the COO (cost of operation) helps allot in getting a seller to budge.
