Was on this site trying to figure it out because I want to swap a 1uz and will need to find an adapter. I would like to keep the 4 speed if possible. Personally I feel it has much more torque compared to my buddies 5 speed since I can chirp through 3rd gear with a stock motor. anyways its a 1988 22r 4 speed manual. Going off this site; Toyota Pickup and 4Runner Drivetrain Specifications , I have no clue!
look on the tag in the engine bay. it'll show you what rearend and trans you have. it will start with a W. my 22r has a w46 4 speed. a w56 has the same ratios for all gears plus the overdrive.
w46 it is! If 5th is just an overdrive then I have no clue why mine has more torq, maybe the rearend and tire sizes? But thanks for the quick info! do you know if the w56/58 etc bolt the same as the w46? because I'm lookin into buying this adapter kit.. w58 adaptor complete package
i do believe they bolt the same, but thats going off of what i've read. the shifter locations change a bit depending on if it came out of a car or a truck. i'm searching for a w58 from a celica to replace the w46 i have now. i did a rx-7 rear so i want the w58 for the "car" ratios. i've heard the mk3 non turbo 5 speed supras will have the w58, but they require a bellhousing swap for 22r. but it seems as if you're going 1uz so that wouldn't matter much lol. i'm keeping my 1uz with the auto since i don't have space for the clutch pedal assembly.
cool, then I will probably keep the w46 until I destroy it and then look into swapping in a 5 speed w58. Have you already done the 1uz swap?
i'm about 95% done with my swap. it runs and is all plumbed. i just have to finish the headers and put in a driveshaft. although mine isn't so much a swap as it's the engine i picked for my scratch built truck lol. i had the stock wiring done to run off stock ecm. it only required hooking up constant and switched power to ecm, as well as the starter trigger wire and grounds. all the wiring in the truck is a universal hot rod harness. here is a vid: http://youtu.be/yb6HrOCMOuE
how long has it taken?? that thing sounds sweet! I cant wait to get mine going, I just don't have much engine knowledge to do the swap on my own.
it's been a 3 year project so far. but as far as the motor goes it was as simple as mounting it. i probably have around 20 hours total plumbing it. wiring took almost 4 months cuz i got screwed around by the guy that did it. the main thing is money lol
oh that is awhile, being my truck is my DD I'm worried I'll run into problems leaving me with no transportation for too long. I think Im going to wait until I need a new engine, if this thing ever dies. Ive been leaking oil somewhere and havent had time to figure it out, but it still runs better then ever. haha
yeah man don't start it if you can't afford the down time. there is a ton of stuff you need to pull it off, and it's all little things that nickel and dime you to death.
