I have a base model 1994 toy pu 2wd 2.4 eng. 5 sp. manual trans. What type of trans do I have r150, w56, w55 ? Is there a tag with it labeled? Also what type of gear oil should I use?

Open the drivers door and look for the tag with tire pressure, barcode, VIN and other info on it. Below the bar code will be a list of codes broken out by slashes like this: C/TR A/TM A01 ect. The trans code will be in there.

85/90 is fine. I run redline mt90 synthetic.

Toyota spec for the W55 is 2.7 quarts of 75W90 or 80W90 depending on climate.

The synthetic oil reads gl5 on it or should i stick with gl4? And the climate of New Jersey.

Has anyone tried Motorcraft gear oil in their W50 or W55?

It gets a lot of good reviews on the Miata forum.

GL4 only. GL5 made my trans real notchy and rough to shift.
The redline MT90 that WT suggested is great stuff. I have it in my trans now and it really improved the shifting smoothness.

GL-5 does not directly supersede GL-4, and the GL-5 is notoriously hard on synchros.
