Yep. Record is 31.5 hwy. For a truck that has seen 120+ dozens of times, it shocks me a little too.

Lots of reasons. Driving habits. Gas you use. State of tune, such as plugs, wires, exhaust, timing, ect. Do you drag alot? Heavy wheels with lots of stop and go traffic?

Similar to what I get. Not quite as high (couple points less) unless you open up the exhaust and intake. A motor that can breathe well always gets better numbers. My old 92 got about the same as my 78 does. I can still get 19-20 on a full tank of beating the piss out of it in town only. :D

What do you mean the butterflies don't work? Is your choke stuck part way on? That would explain the mileage.

so the lower butterflies work normally with the throttle, but the ones on top flop around? take them out and cut that "horn" they are in out. like this.

Then follow my jetting guide, along with the steps online. I bet you aren't jetted properly, plus that choke is killin you.

When I got my rock stock 82 2wd longbed 22R at 77K. I used to get anywhere between 30-33.

245/50ZR16's are the WORST gas milage mod ever.
I got crappier gas mileage with a w58 5 speed over a iron 4 speed.
My Lexxus big brakes are worth one less MPG.
Ported to hell 20R hybrid head...Bout the same. Tiny valves still...
Comp cams 280* cam, idled down and A tri-Y header, gave me a few.

15* BTDC timing, a HOT coil and .045 gap is power and efficency. Id say 1-2 MPG's

All in all, Im getting about 25 now. No complaints. I drive it to 6K regularly, my RR tire is burned up, while the left is newish. I cruise the freeway around 75 most of the time.

I got around 25 ... although I'm a lead foot. ... my father and I had a recent discussion regarding fuels.
His current truck will add a couple miles to the gallon on summer gas vs winter gas. His old truck would do the same for country gas vs city gas. just got to figure out what the truck likes.
