Its a VSV (vacuum switching valve) vacuum is supplied to one port, as engine heats up the valve opens and directs vacuum to the other port, if its broken off its possible its creating a vacuum leak, if not then the part that its supplying vacuum to is not operating as it should.
OK Yes if its broken you'll have idle issues, advance issues, power loss, economy loss, a trick I learned at the dealer is cut the nozzle tube from a carb clean bottle stick it in both tubes then use super glue to set it back in place, the problem is fixed and you save a bunch, the valve will pull through the tubes you inserted.
Just to clarify...you're saying I can bypass this broken sensor and butt the two tubes together? Instead of glueing a splicer in between could I just pull one of the tubes completely off and run the other tube directly where it plugged on?
Update: O'Reilly sells the part for $45. It is strictly special order. Part number BWD EC 2979. AutoZone doesn't sell it. I am going to check the price at the local Toyota dealer. I'll post more information/updates when I have it. Edit: Toyota part number 2582013020 $99. On a side note my heat/air fan switch broke yesterday so I've either got to fix it or replace it also.
no just cut the tubes, stick them in the broken part on the manifold, super glue arond them, stick the other broken part ontop of them and your done.
