I’ve been trying to join this site for about a year and it finally let me. I’ve got an 80 SR5. The engine was just rebuilt with a 22r block and my original 20r head. The wheel and tire setup is the same on all 4 corners with 265/50r15 tires on 15x10 -38 offset ION 171 rims for those who are interested. The current pictures are at the stock height, although I plan on lowering the front possibly another inch or so and the back will be on 3” blocks soon. The tires may be changed out for something smaller because the sidewall is too tall for my liking.

You gonna put flares on before you paint? (Also I died inside a little about the update)

Luv this body style; Can't wait to see where you go with it...gotta be the coolest paint job I've seen on a 22r!

Thanks boss, a few months after I got my wheels I saw his truck and realized we are running the same tires and VERY similar wheels. Is it bad to say I am going to be wrapping the truck almost the same color??

I thought about flares, but $400 is a hefty price for the only ones I can find on Thailand eBay. But they would be pretty cool on the truck if I get it lowered just right

Nice truck, I've always liked that body style. Perhaps look into some 4wd fenders instead of flares. I wouldn't paint it unless you're planning on going all out and do it right, personally I'd prefer to keep the patina

I tend to agree with Perk..the paint is lovely. 4x4 fenders from Rockauto as well as rear flares from..somewhere. If it were me I'd first want different wheels, but it's ur truck!

This is the "best" body style for hecka wide wheels..and maybe over all my favorite bodystyle!

I'll be back with a link to an epic island truck I remember from back in the day. *Edit* https://toyotaminis.com/forum/threads/1980-maui-hawaii-build.10959/ (simple/sweet/no suspension) a truck could be built to be this low or lower and have working suspension just saying *edit*

Thanks Perkolator. I’ll see about some flares on eBay or something. I’ve got to agree that in pictures the original paint does look alright but there is too much rust to justify keeping it the way it is, so I’m definitely going to be painting it once it’s “rust-free” and running again.

From 15 feet it looks great hahah. It took awhile to find a unpopular long bed truck (long beds look better IMO) that was at least within a few states, but for sure my favorite body style.

Oh yeah that’s a great looking truck. The yellow ones always do pop.

I don't know, if it was my truck i would repaint it the factory color and also have those decals freshened up too but I'm sure it would look cool whatever you do

Now I’m curious where this “too much rust” is at? I only see surface rust in the pic. No Swiss cheese windshield area, rockers, fenders...

LOL When I bought my truck, I wanted a short bed. But I missed all of the end-of-model-year deals and ended up with a long bed. But then, the "stretched" LB look grew on me. Now I like LBs just ever slightly more than SBs.

In those years (79-83) the LB really does look best. I would say, mid 80's it's about a tie. 89-whenever short bed...many opinions.

Hold on, one more: 1st Gen (post Stout) long bed. (Do Stouts have a option?)

I seen a Stout with the bed sectioned shorter; was so wide looking and all the way low. If I ever find it again I'll post about it somewhere.
