so anyone got a quick way to pull the stock bushings out of the lower control arms so I can put urthane bushings in?

 

Plan to waste several hours of your life.
Cussing, throwing things, then getting frustrated and blow torching them out...

Run a sawsal on the inside of the bushing until you cut through it,than it will just drive out.
Be careful not to damage the arm!!

 

I've never had a problem. I drop it off at the machine shop... Pick'em back up later. Piece of cake

 

I had to use a tourch to get mine out..major PITA. Worth it though.

 

for the lowers I made a press out of a chunk of 2" pipe and flat bar and used a piece of all thread as a jack bolt to pull the old one out and shove the new one in
the upper I ended up putting the torch to it. it made it easy but messy

the drivers side took me about 5 hrs and with the building of a press I should be able to do the other side in a few hours we'll see tomorrow if I get time

 

Where is a good place to source urethane bushings kits?

just did complete urethane set front and back....OMG what a difference. Since the center sleeves have to be reused and outer shell, drill holes side by side through rubber, punch out. clean out with a rat tail file. BURNING RUBBER....not my lungs.

 

Did you install the poly bushings into the leaf spring front eye loop as well? If you did, then can you answer my question?

I have a 86 sr5 x-cab non-turbo and installed poly bushings in the rear shackles. It was very easy to do. I was going to install the poly bushings from the kit into the front eye loop ,but wasn't sure if the whole OEM bushing needs to be removed including the steel sleeve, or just remove the OEM inner rubber part of the bushing?

Go to most auto parts stores and rent a control arm bushing puller!!! It'll prob be about $120-$150 to rent but you'll get your money back when you return it. TRUST ME!! RENT THE TOOL!!! As for to new bushing I just swapped mine out with MOOG LCA bushings and literally ALL the others with Energy Suspensions. You'll need the original outer LCA bushing sleeve if you get the ES, and to keep the outer sleeve you'll have to torch to soften the bushing and then drill holes on both sides over and over to loosen it enough to get the center sleeve out and then the old bushing. Honestly easier to just rent the tool and replace the whole bushing!

Everyone makes a big deal about this but I've never had a problem?

I just heat up the metal sleeve on the outside(not torching the rubber) until the rubber basically melts on the outside and then slide it on out.

 

LOL. I didn't even use a torch. Just a cheap harbor freight hot air gun set to max. With enough time it would burn through the rubber. The $15 hot air gun lasted just long enough to complete the install.

 

Yes, I bought the prothane kit. Comes with everything on the stock suspension. So if you upgraded from the stock sway bars, you will need to buy different bushings.

 

Ok sweet Frinzo thanks, I'm stock so far, looking to drop in the future though. I'm saving for rear lowering leafs and drop spindles for the front. Should I buy the bushings and just wait till I do the drop to install them, or should I install and then buy bushings because the new parts might be different?
