Finally got to drive my 91 dually hilux today after it's been sitting for 5-6 years. I noticed that I'm hearing some noise coming from the transmission and it stops when I put the clutch in (Going down the interstate at ~60 mph) thinkin' it could use some tranny fluid but am not sure. Is the best bet to try to slowly add more in where the shift arm comes from?
Awesome. Thanks for the info! I'll check it tomorrow. I'm going to assume this plug is on the under side of the tranny so how will I go about putting more fluid in?
you pour it in from the top. i think on these transmissions, you may have to pour from the shifter or some access hole on the side. I can't remember.
Im pretty sure most have the drain plug closer to the bottom. The fill plug should be on the side. Youll need a hose and probably a pump from an auto parts store.
Jettas is correct. I had to get a fluid pump (really cheap at autoparts stores) or I have done it the really easy way and go from the top were the shifter is. As far as the noise it only does it on freeway while pressing clutch in?? Id say throw out bearing but it should make noise period not just at high speeds.
No, it stops making the noise when I push the clutch in. It does it at all speeds but it's most noticeable when I'm cruising along the interstate.
Then yah sounds like you need a new throw out bearing. If your gonna do that just replace entire clutch kit and redo flywheel and seals. Especially if its been sitting for 5 years. First do the tranny flush then bleed clutch and see if that helps if not Id go the replacement route better safe then sorry and its probably needed either way
I just noticed I never described the noise.. My cousin says it's nothing to worry about but I don't remember it making this noise when I parked it 5 years ago. The noise sounds like you can hear gears moving like a wiz/buzzing sound and it started after I put in the short throw.
