ok so i picked up this trans yesterday and confirmed it is a 5 speed with only about 90,000 miles on it out of an 87-88 2wd toyota. there was no truck so no vin i could identify the trans from, but it is a 5 speed. here are some pics and in one of the pics ther is a part looks like a shiftstock housing and aligning pin housing. were can i get one of those and would my 4 speed one fit? the trans the number on the casing the number on the extension housing the part
thats the same trans i have in my 84 , and i had the same crack problem. i went to a junk yard and grabbed a new housing and it didnt fit , seems it was a four speed. i found another one off a five speed and i paid 15 bucks. if ya give me a while ill find out what the model number is ont the trans for ya!
i just hed someone tell me that 4 speed will work on the 5 speed. i dont think so and it didnt even fit right on mine. you dont by chance have that broken piece do you? even if you dont im pretty sure you could get a machine shop to fabup a fix for that.
ok so the number on the extension housing is 33141-20090 that number 33141-20090 is on W50 transmissions. I also found that most of the W-series transmissions share the same housings bolt patterns, and etc. the only thing that makes them differ from each other is the internal ratios of the gears. the material that the trans are casted of dont make a difference either. also the broken part shown is called a "shift lever retainer" as noted in my 1985 toyota pickup and 4runner repair manual.
my guess for the number on the casing 33111-20091 is just another W series casing but with different ratios. i also found the best way to tell what type of transmission you have is by that part the shift lever retainer, you can easily tell the w58 apart from this trans which is clearly not a w58
