1. kept making there vehicles in japan 2. leave a damn straight axle under every 4wd 3. use a box frame instead of a c frame 4. bring them damn 1984-present 4 door 4wd 4cyl gas/diesel
Toyota just felt the need to mainstream their vehicles to what the American market wanted. IRS - helped the Toyota feel less like a "truck" and more highway friendly (lame) The market swapped during Reaganonmics and as Yen grew stronger and the Dollar got overproduced, our dollar didn't stretch as much as it did in the Early-Mid 80's. The new Tacoma is a far cry from what the original Hilux used to be. The more changes they make, the more I want to keep my truck cuz "they don't make em like they used to.
^you meant IFS. Put it this way.... look how big the US is. Look how much we depend on highways. You gradually see the Hilux's transition from squared off to more aerodynamic shapes. 88 to 89 transition. That also applied to the 85-86 SFA>IFS transition. It was more of a practical move. They needed something that appealed to the market. And depending where you are, larger trucks began to dominate the work force and construction area. Do you see alot of trucks going off road? if the US had much more recreational area for more offroaders, there will be more interest in Solid Front Axles. But put it this way. Not every place is covered up by rocks or anything like that. my friend has an extremely capable IFA xcab 22RE. He's followed fullsized rigs to small, and Jeeps. course the IFS can be a backfall in someplaces, but it's sufficient. If you were to have an allout offroading rockcrawling rig, the SFA is your choice. but its not like the general customer group of Toyota trucks has to drive over something every day. it's like picking up my little brother from school and having to crawl up the curb. Anyway, a SAS isn't impossible, just time consuming. course, it'd be nice. I'm not trying to go against what you want, I'm just trying to explain why we have IFS. 4WD. anyway...... they should've kept the damn celica a RWD.
damn these are good ones! and ahh to me they shouldve mad the prerunners 2wd with the ifs front and the 4wd come with solid axles.
oh and the toyota corrolla shouldve stayed as a sexy car not a fricken 4 door mouse car with ugly grounds.
You could say that about any truck or anything they make nowadays for that matter. If you look at most vehicles, the design goes from squareish to round and then back to square and back again. Most models don't stay around long enough to go through the change more than once. Look at it now, we are in the squareish era but most manufacturers are starting to go more aero again. Look back at different years and brands and I think you will see what I'm getting at. I agree, that most don't use their trucks offroad so basically the public got what they wanted. All the truck manufacturers have a better ride then they did years ago because that's what the public wanted.
man i hate my ifs... i've ran into too many spots doing light wheeling where a tire comes off the ground. butt it drives really nice doing 75 mph down the highway
1-6 I agree to. Especially the supra production, greatest sport vehicle toyota ever built. Theres tons of little things they should have kept.
honestly, i think if they made the SFA a bit more available, it'll make things a bit easier lol. put it this way, when you do a SAS, you get an oppurtunity to use better than OEM parts ;D eh, I'm not a major fan of the AE86.... lol but seriously, Toyota RWD FTW
AHHH yes! wat happened to em. id kill for a gt-s hatch. i also agree about awd celicas, n last but not least- shoulda kept the supra goin!
