Am I right into thinking that an 87 2wd pickup didn't come with sway bars standard? This is a longbed xtra cab (dlx). Some years ago when I slowly started upgrading the suspension (next on my list is poly bushings for the control arms, have them since a year or two but am not looking forward replacing them) I noticed the haynes and chilton manuals mention sway bars but I haven't found them on the truck itself. Or maybe the previous owner removed them at some point? It never really bothered me and since I have bilstein shocks, swayaway torsion bars and superspring leafspring helpers in the back it's not like the truck leans over much in turns. Is it worth my while to get front sway bars and/or rear ones for that matter, or should I leave it the way it is? (for increased off-road/rock crawling performance ;-)
Stock sway bars are available ,along with after market . And yes front & rear together will improve your problem !
Yeah I was wondering if they actually came by default with the truck I have. Or was it perhaps some dealer add-on "sport package" ;-) I have been considering getting a sway bar for the front, however I feel it's a bit overkill for the back, considering I have a pair of supersprings there.
Make sure when you mount the rear swaybar, to mount it highish up on the frame, so that you have clearance above the leafspring. Mine was mounted too low and sometimes contacts the spring.
