There's a toyota down the block from where I live. Its an 84-88 2wd model. Stock beige color with what looked like a matching colored camper shell on it. Didn't really notice it until I finally drove by it last weekend. Turns out its got a second row seat in it with the cab wall missing. Looks to be done OEM. The back corner panels of the bed has black lettering saying, "Fun Runner". Right underneath that says "Leisure Odyssey". This truck was always there and thought it was out of commission. Decided to go snap some pictures of it finally and found it was gone. So I guess the guy drives it. Not sure if I struck gold with this cause I can't seem to find anything on it. I know what a Trekker, Wolverine, Blazer and even the Mojave looks like and this is definitely not any of them. It resmebled a Trekker only 2wd, definitely pre-4runner. I did find one person asking about it when googling it but no answer was ever presented. Maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about.
Leisure Odyssey is the company that did the conversion for toyota. they also do motorhome chassis cab conversions. (truck front end with a motorhome attached to the back)
Leisure Odyssey = Odyssey Yeah I caught that but still no literature of the "Fun Runner" itself. Not even an image of it... weird.
ive only ever seen 1.... so im guessing its pretty damn rare. i know toyota experimented even as far back as the 82 pickups to convert them into 4runners witch i think were named bushwacker series or somethin like that....... again.......... ive only ever seen 1 of those too
we got something like this down the road ...i have never really got a good look at it but i know its a old mini camper ...ill try and get some pics
finally got some pics of it So I got a chance to meet the guy. Says he is planning to sell just not in the near future since he's unemployed and is his sole transportation as of now. I gave him my card and he said I'm first in line when he does get rid of it. Cool. So I took a closer look. Definitely a 5 seater. He also said that the camper shell does come off. Only thing is the PO pop riveted the shell down. On with the pix. Sorry, they're camera phone quality:
Not bad man.. I like! the second pic, your camera is DAMN good at Macro shots. but i can see the seats lol
nice! thats now the second one of its kind ive seen in my life.... pretty neat. it'd be almost like having a 2wd first gen 4runner..... witch is what it was kinda intended to be....
Definitely a clean little truck He never said but he did say that he "needs to get rid of it". Hoping its low then. Maybe I can trade him my honda for it... Its still a five seater. Yeah right. My wife would kill me! Stupid phone. After I took the shot I noticed the drivers window was open. I should've just stuck my arm in and take the picture. I was in a hurry. I can already see it, static dropped, cruising around with the kids in the back and the top off. Bada$$!
technically, it wouldnt be too hard to convert one yourself...... grab a better looking, better fitting shell, a bench, cut cut cut.......... and there you go. you would also have a lower cost registration since it have the shell so it would be taken off "commercial" use.
