i have a 95 single cab hilux and i was wondering what the best way to mount two ten or twelve truck boxes to the back wall of the cab. also how to make it from rattling when bumping. Any advice is helpful! Thanks
I have a 88 toyota single cab and i had to get some shollow mount subs to fit in my truck. I got 2 sony 10inch sallow mount subs with the box for like 74 bucks each on sonicelectronix.com
when i was driving my 86 yota. I removed the tack welded jack mount from behind the seat. At first i ran 1 single box for 2 10's, it was about 7.5" deep at the bottom ant about 3.5" deep at the top, i had to slide the bench seat forward a little. Later on i ran 1 Cerwin Vega IT 12 in a sealed box behind the driver side, and put some stinger road kill sound deadener behind it on the rear wall to help dampen vibration. Not sure about on your model, but i found it is easier to run 2 separate truck boxes due to the hump in the center that acts as a drive shaft hump/ rear wall structure. You can try shallow subs, but they didn't exist back when i tried it.
You can purchase 2 single truck sub boxes and put them behind the seat. Also the box and the sub choice is decided on what music you listen too. Personally I would rather get one single 10 in a little bit bigger seal box then 2 12's in shallow truck boxes. What sound are you looking for and what type of music do you listen too? Do you have a bench seat or bucket seats?
Since Im more a stereo sound fanatic then most Id say make a bed box. If you dont want a bed box then yah depending on how tall you are Id go with shallow mount subs for quality. The way I would make it hang or connect to the back wall is simply use sheet metal screws and that real thin bendable metal straping. Cover the back wall with sound deadening material (dynamat or can use the real cheap roofing stuff from most major home improvement stores). Install your box or boxes the the back wall, then cover it up with carpet or whatever and nobody will ever see the straping and such, including the screws through the back of the box. Since there is minimal room between box and bed nobody will see the tips of screw poking out from wall. Another way would be to bolt box to the floor and use some kind of caulking around sides and top.
Thanx for the replies. If i carpet the entire back wall then add the boxes do you think it might help with the rattling?
The back wall won't have that much rattle to it anyways. Its the doors you're gonna have more problems with.
I just put 2 kenwood flat subs behind my seat, I lost less than a inch of leg room. I love them, they need at least 250 watts and are almost $200 a sub.
