Any one do stretched tires on stock rims? i have a 73 and figure I want to do a mild stretch nothing crazy. just for more clearance and looks. Any one done this, right now on my Z I have 225 on a 9 inch wheel and its an ok stretch but I want more on my truck, It might have 7 inch wheels. id post in the 75 and older section but its dead.

Everything ive heard about stretched tires is either "looks cools" or "its extremely unsafe and youre a dumbass" I like the look of a mild stretch. but 225s on a 9" wheel is alot of stretch.

If the wheels youre guna run are 7" i have no idea what tire size u wud use. seeing as a 205 is already a bit stretched

depends what series tire you run. i have 205/70/15s on the front of my dodge and they are 15x7s. its not a streth, its got a slight bubble to it. and if you mean you think the stock rims are 7" wide, and there are OEM stock...they are 5" wide. nothin but a bike tire will stretch on that. lol.

if you have (what im assuming) 15x7 you are looking at the minimal of a 195/50 or 60 ........ a 185 if thats even a possible size combo in a 185/50 or 60 series tire.

stretching the tire on a 7" wide wheel is guna be a b!tch. Just cuz of the width itself. now if it was and 8" then id say DO ET!!!

I just assumed they were 7inch, I have my own tire machine so ill pull them off one day.

225 on my 9inch wheels isnt bad, ill snap some pictures of it.

And im on some drifting forums/nissan forums, and they never really say its unsafe except for you have lest tread on the road. It might be unsafe on a 3000-4000lb car like a big supra or something.

    And thanks for the replys!

your wheels should have the size stamped on the back side of the wheels somewhere. clean em up and take a look.

Also gotta make sure the tire meets the right weight requirement for the truck.. Ive heard of people doing that, but using a smaller tire which wasnt rated at the cars weight.

Ill probably just go with what I can find, if yall say it is this small Ill just get 205. Im not trying to look for anything under 200, unless a 195 pops up.

    Thanks

a slight stretch should be fine. a major stretch, eg. 205 on a 9 inch rim.... is what i consider dangerous.

have you seen the stretch on those VW's in their scene? scary looking.... i consider unsafe.

but as long you don't go too far, you should be fine playing in the safe zones.
    9inch rim + 225's-235's-245's should be sufficient
    8inch rim + 215's-225's

those are some i could think of.....

The reason the drifters in Japan started to stretch tires is to create a stiffer sidewall to initiate drifts easier, kicks out the rear easier.
You may be thinking... I dont wanna slide around, but that's only if your stretch goes far.
