I've been trying to locate the color code for the radio. Here's what colors I am working with. All I need to know is what color does what. The one labled "Ground" was screwed into the back of the stock headunit but the wire was cut so I'm not sure what the purpose in that was.. lol
1991-93 Toyota Pickup Stereo Wiring Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow Switched 12V+ Gray Ground Brown Illumination Green Dimmer n/a Antenna Right Front Front Speakers 4" Doors Left Front (+) Pink Left Front (-) Purple Right Front (+) Light Green Right Front (-) Blue Rear Speakers 5 1/4" Side Panels Left Rear (+) Black Left Rear (-) Yellow Right Rear (+) Red Right Rear (-) White
May be a dumb question but I don't have a blue and yellow (single wire with both colors) to run my constant? There is also no purple, or light green.
Are you going with an aftermarket stereo? If so just get a new grounding point on the frame for the dashboard. I 2nd goin on the12volt.com i got the same info youre looking for from that site
Yes it's an aftermarket stereo. I have looked up the color codes on a few sites, mine just doesn't have the same colors as what the charts say.
You should be able to just buy a wire harness so you dont have to cut the connector off. That is the route to go. Makes wiring the stereo so much easier.
For constant use a hotwire tester see which one has power with key off. If you bought a deck new it should come with the harness plug or you can buy them real cheap $15 from the audio store. If its a deck from a buddy or ebay then just go to local radio shack or best buy they should be able to give you a harness. I havnt hardwired a stereo in 15 years.
yea dont cut the plug if u dont have to just get the harnes and if u have to cut the stock harness out get a volt tester , test for 12 volts there should be 2 one that is always hot,and one that is hot only when your key is turned, u can make your own ground basically anywhere to any metal surface just as long as its grounded itself , i would keep your ground as short as possible without making it difficult to instal the stereo, also make sure that the ground on your amp if your going to run one is no longer then 18 inches, also just follow the principle that u want your ground as short as u can
I had one to two splicer connector things.. Basically they just add an extra wire so I have two harnesses now. I had the connectors laying around but didn't have the money to buy the adapter for the harness.
