Hello everyone ok I'll get right to the point. Some mornings and afternoons my truck won't fire off at all but eventually it will fire off. Ok I have taken the "Starter Relay" off under the hood and sanded the relay contact points and it fixes it but only for a short time. Now the question I'm asking is does anyone have a extra one lying around or know where I can get one from. I called the local auto part stores and they dont seem to have a clue what I'm talking about and I'm kinda hestitant about calling the dealer for one because I'm sure they will tell me some outrageous price. So if anyone can help I welcome all ideas because I'm going nuts trying to figure out a solution :eyecrazy:

I have the exact same problem with my truck.

I turn the key to start the truck and sometimes it fires right away and sometimes I have to hold the key on for a few seconds and then the truck fires.

I had posted on this same problem a while back! I had been fighting this problem for a few years, replacing the starter, rebuilding the starter, etc.
The fix is to install a Ford starter relay separate from the starter, the wire from the battery to the starter goes to one post, the trigger wire will have to be lengthened, & goes to the other post. The problem is too little voltage on the trigger side!
I mount it on the firewall, using two of the brake line bracket holes. You have to enlarge the holes on the relay!

Thanks Truck Action I read you loud and clear. Ok now Toyo Trucker what Action is saying is go to your local napa ,advance or whoever and get a older style Ford Starter Solenoid. Then wire that puppy up as said above and it should work. Its funny because I actually thought about doing something like that but didnt know if it would work. I gotta tell you thats pretty damn genius bro thanks again.

Puts a good 12 volts on the trigger side!
Have too say I didn't come up with this ,talked to this guy back East who has a shop that builds high output starters & alternators. Said this was the fix, guaranteed! He know what he was talking about!!

Thats cool yeah I went to napa and got a solenoid for like 11 bucks and hope to put it on tomorrow if the weather permits. I hope I'm able to because I went out today and it just clicked and really pissed me off. So hopefully by monday my truck will have a fix.

I believe the stock solenoid is built into the toyota starter, so you're adding a ford solenoid before the starter because it is more sensitive to the weak signal wire and can relay full power to the stock starter/solenoid combo.

If that didn't make sense, do a search. I know I bugged TRUCKACTION about more details in another post and he was kind enough to post pictures:)
