Just got some 2" drop spindles. Im putting them on this weekend. Will I need an alignment after they are on?
If they are AIM spindles you will need an alignment for sure, they are pretty far off. Belltechs have always been very close for me, but never perfect.
Any time you mess with your suspension it is a good idea to get an alignment. Better safe then out of control at 75 mph!
im also going to do spindles ( bell tech), should I try and get it close my self or can I drive it to place to get done.
every set i've installed threw the toe out when i bought my 99 chevy dually, it was already dropped. it pulled hard left all the time. so before i towed the lux to west coast nats i put a tape on it and it was 1 1/8" toe out. i adjusted it off a common spot on the tire (not the best way) and now it drives straight. i didn't want to take it to a shop since i need the negative camber to clear my fender since it's already rolled and stretched out. it's seems to be pretty close. my tires have stopped wearing like they were.
Every time I bag a truck I do a "tapemeasure alignment" like burnzya just described. Thats good enough to get it to the alignment shop, but I dont really drive them like that. I found a place that is great for custom alignments, kinda small shop that doesnt care about the rules as much. I just tell them what I want it set at and they do it.
thanks fellas.. i wasn't sure. im putting them on today and i have a three hour trip tomorrow. Didnt know if it was going to be a big difference. Guess ill have to wait till monday to get the alignment. Im trying to save my tires. lol..
When I dropped mine we had to adjust the tie rods in so I could drive it to get an alignment. But since the previous owners never did anything with it we had to take a torch and heat 'em up so we could adjust them.
the sell/rent tools to separate balljoints at most auto stores. i've always had great luck smacking them with a hammer and they come loose, but i'm in az where there isn't much rust lol
BFH.. (Big Fuc**** Hammer) Or a pickle fork. Piece of cake. Just set the toe with a piece of string or a tape measure. Spray the tierod ends with wd40 or pb blaster before you start trying to turn them...
Dont hit the balljoint on the threaded part. Hit it on the casting that has the hole in it. At a 90 degree angle to the balljoint stud. Whomp it! A pickle fork will tear the boot and is a PITA!
yeah, i tried, and tried. epic fail! thanks amigos. im just going to buy all new ball joints. they need replacing. ive done some wear on them trying to bust them free.
