any body done this ? I'm going to do it on my Trekker .. and I'm pretty sure the best way to do it , is to cut a panel ~ the size .. and then trace it to the body .. then cut out the "fins" , and tack in the new piece .. this is what i'm going to do .. anyone have any "hints" ? .
hey slacker I've done a few of these for s-10 and getting ready to do one for my 87 toy. The trick is to go slow, you rush and it will warp.I tack weld then let it cool. My buddy cut his out and made a replacement piece , then he used glue( made or gluing door skin and quarters on cars)to attach it with small pieces of steel under where the joint would be. He did this over 5 years ago and still looks great. I,m tink that is the way I will do the one or my toyota. hope this helps SSB
The fact that they are not removable makes it a PITA to work on. But it's doable. Just prep it as best you can, make some perfect fitting fillers, and weld it very very slowly. Otherwise, you're going to be stuck with a lot of bondo because you can't just buy another one and try again.
Thanks guys .. so just about done .. got it mostly ground down today .. weee skiff of plastic , and were "good to go"
Bob .. you might think of a smoothie from toyotafiberglass.com .. I would , but because the 79-83 is NOT removable !! makes it a little harder .
hey slacker Ive been to you web site? I'm kind of cheap, I would rather spend all day in the garage than spend $80. Plus when I'm in the garage it is like theropy!!!!!!!!! HEHEHEHEHE also have you any thoughts of a cowl style hood for the 84-88, I like the L88 style but I think a 3"or 4" cowl would be cool SSB
not as of yet ... hoods are not a big seller because of shipping costs !!! yep , it'll come out anyday now , before sandblast , also bought a new wheatherstrip .. .
Someday, ill have somewhere to work on my stuff like that..lol Maybe this summer ill get off my ass and build a shop on the pad we have Looks killer!
