Does anyone, for whatever reason, possibly during a swap, ran with a different smog pump other than what originally came with the truck, car, or wagon?

Or.....to be a little more specific, can an 82' 22R use the smog pump of a 78' 20R, and vice versa?

I know their outer shells look and bolt up differently, depending on the brackets and whether or not you have AC, but it's whether or not their internals and function/capacity any different from one another that i would like to know?

    Second part of this question:

Say on a California smog exempt pickup (Pre-76), can the smog pump be deleted altogether? I've seen some photos (ShoNuff :) ) of what looked like a 20R without the smog pump. I could be wrong.

Is it just as simple as plugging up the lines and removing the pump?

You can indeed just remove it and plug the lines... the previous owner of my 74 did that on the 20R he installed, and with a Weber 32/36 cleaned up the engine bay by getting rid of the EGR and other smog stuff. In PA we are smog-exempt pre-75, so no one ever knows what was done. Just be careful you cap the vacuum ports well or it will run poorly or get poor mileage.
