Got a brand new lcengineering short shifter, For some odd reason it don't fit my trans. The installation intructions wasn't even close to how is should be..

The way I removed the stock shifter and reinstalled it was the same as I would have done in a w56 4wd tranny, could it be I have a w56 in my 2wd truck?? Or is the w55 shifter the same as th w56??

Same basic internal rail setup but a different pattern on the tower.

Okay so mine is a w55. But why doesnt the shifter fit. It says its for 88-95 2wd. On the instructions it says to push down and turn to remove shifter. What trans is that for?.

For my trans I had to remove for 10mm bolts to pull out shifter

L and G series most commonly have the push and twist lock to pull the handle out of the tower. I'm not sure what the rhyme & reason is behind what trans have which style retainer but later W56's have the push and twist setup for sure.

So should a shifter from a w56 be able to work in a w55 trans??
