So I'm not a mechanic, and I use my truck as a primary vehicle. One of the seatbelt retractors doesn't work, and I'm really suffering trying to find a replacement. It seems like there isn't one single Toyota truck in any junkyard around here. Can I fix the retractor? Can I buy a new one? Any help appreciated.
You can always buy new from dealership but try ebay or there is an all Toyota junkyard in Denver called yotayard they ship and have a website as far as fixing it I'm sure that's possible but I've never done it
Well, I went ahead and ordered a pair of new seatbelts off the internet. I called the dealership, and they said the belts were discontinued, so I ordered new ones off the internet. Problem solved, hopefully. Thanks for the advice.
Discontinued??? Ive never heard of a dealership discontinuing parts even if its that old. ANy how hope your new belts work
i got the wake up call when i went to the dealer and he was too lazy to use the microphiche even if i was willing to spend thousands of dollars. i have ordered the service manual complete with part numbers so now they will search by them. but most parts for my truck are discontinued. went thru the same thing with restoring my mustang so i went resto-mod.
for my stout the ONLY parts i can buy at the dealer: spark plugs also when i called and said stout, the dude said "a what"
If you buy a new setup you'll have to remove the old one. Try removing it now and 'check it out' Pull the complete seat belt out of the truck. I'd think you'd need at most 2 different size wrenches or sockets. Get it on the bench under a good light. Not much to go wrong with these things. I'd think it just needs a bit o lube. Try to keep the stuff off the belt material. Might need a shot of air to blow out some dust/lint/debree. Bet you can fix it without spending any money.
Didn't realize this is an old thread but... Some helpful info about rebuilding your seatbelts: Minute Mod- Fixing Seatbelt Retractors
We have a wanted section, where you could have requested a pair of seat belts. Probably would have paid a little less an they would have been OEM.
