i have my torsion bars cranked almost all the way down, and i have 18s on it. in the front, the brake line mount i guess towards the firewall, welded on the frame scrubs my tires. i recently had to buy two new tires because it cut the rubber. is there a way i can move it so it wont scrub, with out having to heavily modify or get expensive parts? and ill post pics later of the part. and im also starting the work on my dented up bed.
well my wife had the camera today so i couldnt get any pics, but as far as the wheel and tire specs, i dont know, i think the tire size is 245 40ZR 18, and ill also post some pics of my bed as soon as i get the camera.
Not sure on the later models, but with 18's my my 88 ,tire hit the inner fender, must cut out. The wheel @ full lock will hit, stop travel & cause the tie rod ends to pull out! I know cause it happened & luckily I was in a parking lot!! Remove all the inner fenders & use trailer fenders to make new inners!!
Cut it off the frame and move it forward a few inches so that it is closer to the pivot point of the wheel. Just make sure you don't move it so far the line doesn't reach. You'll want to weld it back to the frame so it doesn't accidentally move around. You wouldn't want your tire coming in contact with the rubber line and lose your brakes.
No. You should double check before you get to cutting, but I have done similar relocations on these tabs in the past. Just turn all the way to lock and see if it looks like it would still reach from a location a couple inches forward. I bet 2-3" forward would probably do. Since the body is on the frame its going to be hard to really cut the tab off cleanly with a cutoff wheel or anything. If it were me I'd just put a sawzall blade up flush with the frame vertically and cut it off like that, leaving the part on top of the frame until the next time the motor is out or the body is off the frame. With the motor out you could climb right in there and clean up the top of the frame rail.
What would be super quick and easy and should be a permanent fix would be to just cut the bracket off with a sawzaw and with a zip tie with the screw hole in it and some self taping screws, tie the line and screw it to the frame and you are done.
Hey, he just took what I said and added the zip tie thing! Welds are better than zip ties, but you could definitely get by with what he described too, at least for a while.
