I have an 87 longbed xcab 2wd with carburetor (CA model afaics) and it has what looks like an oxygen sensor stuck in the exhaust (header?). It's visible when looking down from the driver's side, it has one wire. Now I thought that engines with carburetors don't come with an oxygen sensor, since there is no computer to do anything with the data collected (so what's the point?). In addition I am unable to actually find it listed on the label under the hood, neither in any of the manuals. Is it an oxygen sensor, if not, what is it?
its for the emissions computer system. in your passenger kick panel you will see an ecu there for all the smog/emissions stuff. there isnt much to it but everything under the hood with a green plug is in one way or another tied into the emissions. (atleast on the passenger side of the engine bay and the 02 sensor)
How do you remove it and keep the vehicle running doesn't it control the solenoid in the side of the carb?
I am surprised, I honestly thought the engines with a carburetor had no ECU. I am wondering how the ECU in turn controls the fuel mixture since a carb is mostly a mechanical device.
Toyota maid a somewhat of a lame emissions system for Cali emission standards back then a cruel and hagard attempt to pass there standards .. Somewhat helped but at the same time redundant system ..
