So, the wiper fuse keeps blowing and I'm starting to believe it might have something to do with the overdrive after reading this post.... I have a 1987 toyota pickup (it's actually a - FixYa I've been driving around with a 3 speed auto with my top speed of 55 since I bought the truck..... Getting tired of people honking at me on the freeway! I've been reading every overdrive post and doing Internet research as well. I did go out to a junkyard and pulled a overdrive solenoid that bolts to the driver side of the trans from a Volvo that a guy did and supposedly worked..... However, it's a lot tighter to switch out on my little pickup Any tips. Also, I'm not sure that's even the problem.... Is there a transmission relay? If so, where? Thanks guys!
There is a overdrive relay some were under the dash . Or under the hood in the fuse panel . Haven't had a auto truck to look at but it's there some were And it's proably is a tight spot to get to the overdrive solenoid but I've herd a few stories of auto toyotas beng prone to this faulty solenoid . Best bet crawl under there and pop that Volvo one on .. And make sure it has clean good connections You can possibly try some of the things mentioned on that link . The unplugging the overdrive solenoid one . To see if the wipers blow a fuse while OD is unplugged would be a start
Good to know there is a relay! Thanks Now, anybody with a auto know where the relay is located? Thanks
Well, took it to a transmission shop here in the San Fernando Valley and they just bypassed the solenoid so it always stays in OD.... Which I don't mind and they only charged me $50 which I don't mind either Right off that bat I'm noticing a tremendous MPG difference..... No more top speed of 55 haha Still need to figure out why the wipers fuse keeps blowing... Thanks!
Far as wipers if the fuse blows instantly . When turned on it could be bad wires loose worn out connections .. Inspect the harness and connections If it works and blows a minute later could be the motor getting hot and pulling high amps failing motor it can also blow fuse right of the bat to tho . In most cases the old motor just gives up the fight . Gets hot and tight and pops fuses
