A new buddy referred me to this site. I have a 73 RN27 that seems to be very original (including 18RC) and maybe even with low miles, but needs a bit of restoration work: it seems almost all of the rubber pieces are rotting and deserve to be replaced.

Phase 1: I've been seriously considering a front disc brake upgrade in lieu of refurbing the OEM dual-cylinder drum front brakes, but am not exactly sure about compatibility (re the donor truck). Also I needed a new brake booster (more rotten rubber).

Anyway, I'll work on posting pix soon.

My goal is to get a reliable, highest performing runner, not a show truck or anything non-stock.

:) Glad you could make it.

As I told you, there are quite a few guys here with our era of trucks who would be more than willing to help out anyway they can. Even the guys with other era trucks have plenty of knowledge to share.

    It's a great site.

easiest way to swap to discs is to find a 76-78 spindle with brakes and all intact. the 79-83s will work if you flip them side to side (L-R and R-L). also, id suggest using an 81ish master and booster. will bolt to your firewall and pedal if you use the little shim behind your booster, and the pedal arm extention for your booster. i did that to my 78. it has a smaller booster diameter to provide more clearance, and looks a little cleaner having the one fluid chamber. the 76-78 will work too, it just has a larger booster and the 2 bolt style master. when i swapped, my pedal got a little firmer but i stopped having rear lock up issues. it has a slightly smaller bore so less pressure goes rear ward. and the smaller booster gives a little less power boost, hense the slightly firmer pedal. but, in the future, i can use the later large bore 4 bolt master for when i put 4runner calipers and crown vic rotors.

    summery:
76-78 or 79-83 spindles with brakes
76-78 or 79-83 brake booster and master
    :D

Thanks to all for the welcome. I've posted a pic of my truck (and asked the admin to delete the accidental dup) in the photos section.
