    Hi,

I own a Chinook Omega Newport RV that is build on a 1978 Toyota Hilux (or is it called Truck or Pick-up?)
It probably is the only one here in The Netherlands because at that time the Toyota model was not officialy imported, let alone a Chinook RV.

And that is were the problem for me begins. I can't seem to find any parts for my Toyota. Toyota Netherlands has no data of this model. Websites that sell parts don't know this model. Even a specialised Toyota parts dealer does not know this model.
And I do mean: does not know the Toyota model, not the RV model.

So, I hope that you guys can help me.
Is there a parts list with OEM numbers available for the 1978 Toyota Pickup (or is it called Hilux or Truck)?
I know that car parts are often not unique to one specific model. Is there a list of interchangeable parts. Can I use parts af a Crown? Do leaf springs of a Corolla fit?

With other words, All the info I can get on parts for my Toyota Hilux Pickup Truck (Chinook Omega Newport) Whats in a name? is welcome.

What are you looking for? Body parts can be a little hard to come by but you can find guys selling all over the world. I use a guy in Thailand that has lots of good parts. For engine parts if it's a 20r or 22r you can find companies here in America specializing in them. The camper itself will come down to your abilities. Woodworking and what not.

There are several chinook owners groups online. Facebook also has some. Technical advice and parts can be found with these groups.
Think of your chinook as a 1978 Toyota pickup with a chinook body attached. Makes parts hunting much easier.

I'm not looking for parts for the Chinook, i'm looking for parts for the Toyota.
The 2.2 20R engine runs fine after I did some maintenance and adjusting.

So what I am looking for are parts of the suspension, springs, shocks, bushings, stabilizers etcetera. I don't need al of them but now I can't find any of those parts.

Yes I can find them in the states but shipping is to costly. Especially heavy and voluminous parts like springs and shoks are too expensive to order in the states.

Therefor I'm trying to find out what Toyota models have the same parts. Or for instance, can I use the leaf spring of a '83 Hilux? Or maybe of a '80 Crown or Corolla.

A list with partnumbers of the '78 Pickup would also be great. I can use that list as reference to order parts in The Netherlands.

    Someone must know...

Rock Auto would be a good parts number source. They usually provide interchange part numbers along with factory numbers. You don’t need to buy from them. Once you have the necessary numbers google the part’s locally. Google “Toyota Hilux”. This will give you generational years and any changes made.
You need to do a little research on your own. Good luck.

What's your goal with the suspension - to just make it handle better or is something wrong with the current parts?

Leaf springs are a more universal type of part and can be customized by building a custom leaf pack with parts from other vehicles if you're looking for more support - just make sure the leafs are sized appropriately compared to your current leaf pack; plenty of online info on building leaf spring packs. You can also add secondary parts like airbags, air shocks, a coil spring between frame and leaf, etc. without touching your leafs.
In the front I'd assume your coil springs are ok. You can still find replacement parts for refreshing all your steering, bushings, shocks, etc.
Stabilizer bars can get new bushings installed on them. If you want a different one, some people have adapted stuff like the 1ton bar to their truck; personally I'd probably just look at more readily available universal stabilizer bars
