new rear shocks

    1981 2wd longbed..starsky and hutch colored
    how do i "de-tension" the old ones so that they dont pop off and take out my eye? :) ive got some new monroe sensatracs id like to put on there..im drivin an '81..

    jack the rear of your truck up and take your upper and lower shock mount bolts out then slide the shock off. If your worried about the "tension" loosen the upper bolt then take the lower out and pound the bottom of the shock out with a dead blow

    That is how I did mine when I installed my air shocks. I did the bottom bolt first knocked it off the mount then loosed the top. 30mins and done.

    thanks for the feedback..got em switched out today. lifted my truck up an inch tho!! am i able to lower the rear 6 inches without having any serious modifications done? i dont want to have to "c-notch" the frame or any of the sort..
