Hi all, Just got my 87 running and this site helped me with it a lot. pretty cool site and it seems like theres a lot of knowledgeable people here. And a whole lot of really cool trucks! Mine had the broken timing chain guide water in the oil thing. Heres some pics got pretty ugly under the valve cover--sat for about 6 months after the coolant got in there tore down cleaned up and going back together heres the only pic I have of the whole truck right now I'm looking to drop it soon, and probably do some paint and rims. What is the general opinion on drop spindles vs drop arms? The streetacos kit looks like it would be great, but I hardly ever see anyone using the drop arms. Everything I've seen about the streetacos stuff seems to have a really good reputation, and I'd like the blocks that are cut to correct the pinion angle right. Your thoughts would be appreciated! Loving the site so far. Thanks Andy
Thanks there's a few clean old yotas running around Shelby county . Gotta keep em alive I prefer drop spindles over arms and you can't go wrong with anything street taco makes
Welcome Andy! Glad you saved this '87. Wheels & tires are a must. It immediately give the truck a totally different look. Have fun with your truck! Rick
Thanks everybody! scrubb88--any particular reason you prefer spindles over arms? street tacos doesn't seem to sell the spindles and thats the only reason I was looking at getting arms. I know the spindles look like they'd be easier to put on. rn34--yeah I've noticed that. I'm thinking with this one I might go for just some 16" or so steelies off of something else. maybe with some white stripe tires on them. can't decide lol.
. I say prefer but in reality they both get the job done i guess im more accustom to drop spindles . Either one will work just fine don't forget to get you some good shocks to its a world of difference with them
Yeah I've heard that. Will I have to get lowering shocks or can I run a decent quality stock shock with a 3-4" drop? those lowering shocks are expensive!
If you use blocks in the back a standard length shock will work . Upfront if the drop spindles aren't enough drop and you loosen your torsins bars up to go a little lower you might consider drop shocks up front to Handle the compressed suspension better
Thanks man. I didn't even think about the fact that with drop spindles or arms you don't change any of the suspension angles. my bad lol. You wouldn't happen to know where I could get a sr5 cluster for it would you? they don't seem to be around much in the junkyards...
No the feeling the local yards don't have much if anything n the way of old Toyota trucks few skeletons I willing to bet Arkansas would have some tho just can't seem to take the drive and come up empty handed ..
yeah that would definitely suck. I did find about 3 in the pull a part off lamar, but like you said, they're pretty much skeletons. did manage to get a "new" hvac cable controller though. mine broke when the heater valve stuck and somebody just kept pushing on the lever lol.
Yup I've been there picked and poked on those same trucks .i can't recall any other yards that have them I did have a guy give me a wrecked 88 I cut it up took what I needed only thing I got left is the bed and axle and half the frame
Yo 87 yota if you see a large 80 s model k 5 suburban lifted 12 or more inches on 44s with dynospeed speed body wrap on it in memphis or being cut up ..in someones backyard or in the covington pike bottoms call the police or pm me ASAP my buds truck was stolen out side of dyno speed late one night ..the bastards took a video of them stealing it but no faces ...this truck was fully decked out and were trying to find it before she's cut up
