Hey my name is Scott. I bought a '87 Toyota pickup back in February. Bought the truck already on bags. Too cheap to pass up! It didn't run when I got it. The engine block was full of gas. I changed the oil, put in new plugs, new mechanical fuel pump, and got rid of a bunch of vacuum stuff.

I had it running, dragged it to work a few days, and the block filled up with gas again.

As of right now it's sitting in the garage while I work on getting parts for it. Eventually going to paint it, redo the suspension, and Z the front to get it to lay out even.

    Full lift

Welcome, Scott! Once you get everything dialed in and painted, then you can enjoy a good truck built by Toyota.

Whats up man. Nice truck. I have family over there in Kokomo. Your truck is carbed right? I would think the only two places gas would come in from is the man. fuel pump or from the carb thru the intake.Get the block off plate from an efi for the man. fuel pump and go electric.I know you said you just changed it but thats weird. ALso maybe your float bowl is alowing fuel to flow continuously into the intake.Maybe not when running just the left over fuel in the line when you park. Not sure about that but maybe its time for the weber 32/36 upgrade.

Welcome to tm ..malessso. Is right I'd swap to a weber there so much simpler and cleaner looking
The stock carb is just a mess when they get old and faulty .i don't see your mechanical pump keeping enough pressure after shutoff to force gas past the needle and seat .unless someone has over tightened the fuel mixture screws causing damage to them in wich case they'll leak with the slightest pressure. And your float level could be jacked up or have a small hole in it wich it will sink in the bowl causing excess fuel levels .. Weber best bang for the buck

Thanks. I'll look into that Malesso.

When I bought the truck it didn't have a gas cap. I got it running and drove it a few times and it was fine. I bought a gas cap, put it on, drove it around the block a few times and it did it again while it was parked. It only does it when the gas cap is on. I was wondering if it was a vent problem. I did notice one of the charcoal canisters leaking fuel on the ground. I haven't removed those yet. I plan on getting rid of those and getting a fuel cell. And a weber carb is definately in the future.
